26Perdita's Story
26-Perdita
Pug/mix
Female
Housetrained: but needs a schedule
Leash Trained: Yes, but needs work on leash
Approx 2 yrs. old
Approx 15 lbs.
Kids: 5+
Cats: Yes
Dogs: Yes
Perdita, aka, Purdy, came to us in early January and joined our crew of two other small dogs who we adopted from Foothill Dog Rescue several years ago. She immediately settled in as one of the pack. She also spent a recent weekend with two large (80 lb+) dogs from visiting family and she was fantastic. She has been to vist the very dog tolerant cat next door, and she had no interest in the cat whatsoever.
Purdy seems to have some Pekinese and/or Pug in her given her flat nosed facial structure, and as such, she has periodic episodes of "reverse sneezing". It can sound scary, but per the vet it is harmless. Her new owner will either need experience with this and how to gently calm her or be willing to learn. A quick search on You.Tube will easily demonstrate the experience.
Princess Purdy is a little picky when it comes to food. We have had to try a few different dog foods with her and non-chicken kibble seems to have reduced her itchiness. Salmon and sweet potato has been a winner. She prefers wet food over dry (who wouldn't!), so about half kibble and half wet has been the perfect balance.
We figured out early on that she was more puppy than full grown dog given her very playful nature and her sharp little teeth. She can be a bit "mouthy" trying to chew on fingers, but is easily corrected when pushed away and told no. For this reason, we think that older children (5+) would be best. She did spend the weekend with our 2.5 year old niece and she was great (but always watched). She is friendly with any person or dog that she sees.
Purdy is like velcro - she wants a lap most of the time and sleeps quietly all night in between us in our human bed. She is potty trained and has signaled at the door a few times, but it is important to take her out on a regular schedule. She enjoys walks tremendously, but does pull and zigs and zags and needs some practice in patience (excited about everything on our walks!).
We have kenneled her once when we were gone for about 1.5 hours, and while she didn't like it when we left, she was super excited when we got home. We feel that it will be important for her to be with a family that is home often as she is anxious when we even leave the room. It will be best if she has at least one other dog friend in the home to help with this anxiety.
Final note....she gets underfoot regularly, so she could be a tripping hazard to any elderly in the home.
Purdy has been one of my favorite fosters (yes, I say that a lot but I love them all) and I know she will make a great family dog to someone else. Bonus- she barely sheds

If interested, we recommend submitting an adoption application at: www.foothilldogrescue.org

This dog will be available at Saturday’s adoption event at our rescue. Meet and greets are 11:00 - 1:00.
Our address is:
4131 S Shingle Rd suite 14
Shingle Springs, CA

Please bring all resident dogs and children that live in the household to the meet and greet.

Our adult dog adoption fee is $350 (with $5 processing fee if paid by card) and fee for pups under 4 months old is $400 (with $5 processing fee if paid by card). Adoption fee includes spay or neuter, rabies, DAPP and Bordetella vaccines, deworming, microchip, heart worm test and lifetime registration.
