25Hula's Story

When she first arrived in foster care, she was very underweight, covered in fleas, missing fur, and timid from litter‑mate syndrome. Since then, she has bravely worked through a long list of challenges — worms that made it hard to gain weight, a difficult spay recovery, an ear infection, and what appears to be an ongoing allergy. Through every setback, Hula has kept her spark, her sweetness, and her love for people (and for the ball).
Personality
Hula is a true “people dog.” She adores human attention and would happily spend her days snuggling, being loved on, or playing fetch. She can coexist peacefully with another calm, respectful dog, but she isn’t interested in canine play and prefers not to share high‑value treats. She would thrive as an only dog or with a mellow resident dog who gives her space. She’s also completely indifferent to cats and has lived comfortably with two confident, dog‑savvy cats in foster care.
Hula is wonderful with kids and warms up quickly to new people. She may be slightly cautious at first, but her desire for affection always wins.
Home Life & Training
Hula is house trained, crate trained, and has good potty manners. She’ll quietly cue at the back door when she needs to go out, but if no one notices her signal, she will eventually find a spot indoors — so her new family should keep an eye out for her subtle requests. She sleeps in her crate at night and stays calmly crated for 4–6 hours+ when her foster family is away. If she whines in her crate, it usually means she needs a potty break. She can get vocal when left alone, but with exercise and something to keep her busy, she settles well.
She loves fetch with her whole heart — though she’s still learning the “drop it” part. Because she’ll happily chew a ball to pieces if given the chance, her new family should supervise ball time to keep her safe.
Hula walks nicely on a leash once she gets going, though her nose sometimes leads the way. She’s food‑motivated, eager to learn, and has been practicing her basic commands. She even joined a pack walk and handled the environment beautifully, showing no reactivity. She’d make a great walking or hiking buddy.
Health & Ongoing Needs
Hula is still working toward a healthy weight. She currently eats several small meals throughout the day to support her digestion and weight gain. Her adopters should be prepared to continue this routine while she fills out. She also appears to have an allergy — possibly food‑related — so her future family will need to help her identify and manage it. In her foster home she has been eating Purina Pro Plan Sport (Salmon & Rice) in both dry kibble and wet food to support added protein for her weight gain. She doesn't need to stay on this food, but it has so far been working well for her.
Why You’ll Love Her
Hula is goofy, affectionate, resilient, and endlessly loving. She has overcome so much and still greets each day with joy. Whoever adopts her will gain a loyal companion who gives back tenfold in love, laughter, and devotion.
If you’re looking for a sweet, silly, people‑loving girl who’s ready for her forever home, Hula just might be the one.

If interested, we recommend submitting an adoption application at: www.foothilldogrescue.org

This dog will be available at Saturday’s adoption event at our rescue. Meet and greets are 11:00 - 1:00.
Our address is:
4131 S Shingle Rd suite 14
Shingle Springs, CA

Please bring all resident dogs and children that live in the household to the meet and greet.

Our adult dog adoption fee is $350 (with $5 processing fee if paid by card) and includes spay or neuter, rabies, DAPP and Bordetella vaccines, deworming, microchip, heart worm test and lifetime registration.
