Lamar County Animal Services's Adoption Policy
Health and Condition: LCAS ensures that animals are in good health at the time of adoption but cannot guarantee their health post-adoption. Adopters assume responsibility for any future health issues.
Adopter's Agreement: Adopters must comply with all contract terms. Non-compliance allows LCAS to repossess the animal without a refund.
Health and Temperament Waivers: Adopters acknowledge potential zoonotic diseases and behavioral uncertainties. LCAS does not guarantee the animal's health or behavior outside the facility.
Acclimation: Adopters should prepare the animal for its new home by allowing adequate adjustment time and following specific acclimation methods for dogs and cats.
Adoption Fee: A non-refundable fee of $75.00 is required, covering veterinary care, housing, and food expenses. Additional fees may apply for spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccination, and microchipping.
Sterilization: All animals must be sterilized before LCAS relinquishes custody, either by LCAS or through a written agreement with the adopter.
Animal Care: Adopters must ensure the animal's health and welfare, treating it as a companion or family member.
Prohibition of Animal Fighting: Adopters must not use the animal for fighting or any aggressive sports.
Transfer and Liability: LCAS reserves the right to refuse owner surrender post-adoption. Adopters assume full responsibility for the animal and indemnify LCAS from any liability.
Contract Enforcement: The contract is legally binding. Breach of contract requires the adopter to relinquish the animal to LCAS without entitlement to a refund.
