He doesn’t need to run up to everyone he meets demanding attention.<br/><br/>He just needs someone who understands that trust is something you earn, not something you can demand.<br/><br/>Spider came to rescue after spending his early life as a breeding dog. He arrived terrified, shut down, and with very little reason to believe that humans could be trusted.<br/><br/>He was eventually adopted and spent a couple of years in a home. Unfortunately, he never became comfortable with the man in the household, and ultimately, Spider was returned.<br/><br/>But here’s the thing...<br/><br/>Those two years mattered.<br/><br/>Spider is different now.<br/><br/>He has learned that women can be safe. He will timidly welcome pets, tolerate a belly rub or two, and even accept a cautious little kiss on his head. He’s much more comfortable coming inside now, too. Something that once terrified him is becoming part of his normal routine.<br/><br/>And there are other little signs of just how far he has come.<br/><br/>Spider walks beautifully on leash when using a slip lead. Something that once seemed impossible for this frightened boy has become just another thing he can do.<br/><br/>Is Spider going to run up and throw his paws around your neck on day one?<br/><br/>Probably not.<br/><br/>He may never be the kind of dog who wears his heart completely on his sleeve. He may always need a little more patience, understanding, and time than most.<br/><br/>But every tiny step he takes toward trust is a victory.<br/><br/>Spider is approximately 5 years old and needs a female-only household with a securely fenced yard.
