0995 Oreo's Story

Oreo is being fostered in Plymouth MI

Meet Oreo, a 4 year old, blue merle with no tan points, Mini Australian Shepherd (Mini American Shepherd) with beautiful blue and brown eyes and a tail. He weighs about 40 pounds and is still working on a little more weight loss to stay healthy. His ideal weight is about 33 -35lbs.

Oreo is potty trained, crate trained, and very food motivated. He has earned the trust of his foster family and can free roam the house with his foster brother while they are away. He especially loves playing with his foster brother, another Australian Shepherd. Oreo is great in the car and rides well. On a scale of 1-10, he is about a 5. He isn't a super high energy guy, but he isn't a couch potato either. Just a boy who needs his daily exercise/walks and some snuggles and he will be a happy little dude!

He does well with other dogs with proper introductions and adjustment time. He has no resource guarding issues, though dogs are always fed aseparately in our foster homes as a precaution.

Oreo can be mouthy, which is typical for an Aussie, so he would do best in a home without small children. Oreo is a bit reserved. He can be nervous around new people, especially men, and may bark or back away at first. Oreo will need a confident leader that understands this breed and another confident resident dog would help him too! Oreo lacks the socialization and confidence needed when he was younger so someone that will work on these things with him would be ideal! He would love to take some classes to boost his self confidence and be a well adjusted boy. He is HIGHLY food motivated and that is the way to win him over. He will need time to adjust to a new environment, new surroundings and someone that is patient with him and will provide the love and structure he needs to be a good boy.

Once Oreo warms up, he is incredibly affectionate and loves to snuggle. He is a sweet, loving boy who deserves a calm and understanding forever home that will protect him and make him feel safe. Once bonded to his human, he is a TOTAL Velcro boy!

Oreos needs:

A calm and patient Aussie experienced or herding dog experienced home.

Another confident resident dog to take cues from OR someone that will take him to classes to boost his self confidence.

Oreo is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, negative for heartworm and on monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworm. Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization. For more information on our adoption process or to complete an adoption application, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org.

NOTE: All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.
