ZIPPER's Story

92 days ago today, Zipper was tossed into the hallway by her owner who told a neighbor she no longer wanted the brown tabby girl. Confused and scared, Zipper was understandably angry when she was picked up by our Field Services team. For months, when she wasn't hiding under her blanket, Zipper would lunge, hiss, and scratch. Earning the trust of a cat who had been so betrayed by humans was not an easy task, and it didn't happen overnight. But with time, patience, and the help of Churu and a back scratcher, Zipper has finally begun to let people into her world again. Zipper needs an adopter who is understanding and willing to give her as much time as she needs to acclimate to her new home. Zipper is very food-motivated, so that helps! We've learned that she's easily triggered by loud noises and fast movements, so a calm environment is ideal. Staff and volunteers used a metal back scratcher to help Zipper learn to enjoy human touch, and she absolutely LOVES that. In fact, sometimes *actual* human touch becomes too much for her, but she can never get enough of that metal back scratcher! For this reason, it's been suggested that Zipper would be an ideal cat for someone with a prosthetic arm, but that might be hard to find! If you can give Zipper the loving forever home she so deserves, please stop in. Zipper isn't in our Cat Adopt room (way too overstimulating for her), but just ask for her by name, and we'll take you to meet her! * We don't know if Zipper has lived with dogs before. We recommend slow introductions. * Zipper may do best with older children, teens, and adults who will respect her boundaries and give her time to adjust. * Zipper does not seem to have lived with other cats before. We recommend slow introductions. * Zipper is 5 years old and weighs 9 pounds. She's spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. * Stop in at 13011 Maugansville Road in Hagerstown, MD and ask to meet Zipper by name!
