Zeus & Athena's Story

Zeus and Athena are the sweetest little kittens. They are littermates and were born around 2/24/26. Zeus and Athena were found with their two litter mates (who have already been adopted) and their mom, Rhea. Rhea had given birth the night before she and her kittens came to the shelter!

Athena (female) and Zeus (male) have an interesting medical story. All MCSPCA kitties are tested for FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) before they are put up for adoption. The test (ELISA SNAP test) indicates if a kitty has been exposed to FeLV. Rhea, their mom, tested positive for FeLV on this test, indicating that she was exposed to FeLV.

Whenever a kitty tests positive for FeLV, a second test is administered. This test (IFA) indicates whether or not the virus has infected the cat. This test was negative, indicating that Rhea has not been infected with FeLV and could fight it off.

Zeus and Athena were both tested for FeLV and they both tested negative for it. Even though they tested negative, we still consider them to have been exposed to FeLV since they spent their kittenhood with Rhea.

Zeus and Athena have been started on vaccines to help them fight off FeLV. They will need to be retested and for now, they should not be around any other cats. They do love each other very much and will need to be adopted together.

Zeus and Athena are part of our "adopt-one-get-one-free" promotion so for one adoption fee, you'll get double the love!! :)
