Val's Story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.<br/>Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. If you would like to try a Foster to Adopt trial, please fill out an Adoption Application.<br/><br/>If you are only interested in temporarily Fostering one of our rescues, please fill out a Foster Application.<br/><br/>Meet Val!Update 4/6/26: Val's previous foster had to travel, so Val is currently being fostered by a retired couple where he is the only kitty in the home. Here is what his current foster family has to say about him:'Val is a happy playful boy. He loves to be with us at all times and joins us on the couch or bed for snuggles. He loves to be in touch, putting his paw or head on my arm while beside me but he’s not really a lap kitty. Val will play with almost anything that moves including small toy balls and cars. He loves our interactive play with wands and he will fetch my hair scrungees. He’s very vocal especially if he thinks it’s time (always) for more food or treats. Enjoys birdwatching from windows. Val is the only cat in our home but he’s also lived with other cats and dogs.'<br/>Update 2/11/26: Val was fostered in an apartment setting by a working single adult along with one other ARWOB foster kitty. Here is what his foster had to say about him:<br/>“Val is such a loving and affectionate kitty! He always wants to be touching you in some way, whether that's when you're sitting on the couch or cooking something in the kitchen -- he's at your ankles or on your lap the whole time! He's got such a good balance of playfulness and cuddles, and will go from running around and entertaining himself with a toy to stretched out on his back on the couch within minutes. He also loves to talk and will meow whenever he sees you to say hi and tell you how he's doing. While he's still got a bit of stranger danger that we're working through, he warms up to people quickly as long as they give him some space (and treats). Val is such an amazing boy!!”<br/>Original Rescue Story:<br/>Val is your typical handsome tuxedo. He comes to us from the streets of Baja Mexico, specifically Ensenada. He is not fully grown, but almost there as a “teenage” kitty. He is currently fostered at Casa de ARWOB along with several foster siblings, both dogs and cats. He is the type of cat who assimilated easily from day one when he arrived. For being a male teenage cat, he is very easy going around other cats. He is not a bully, nor is he interested in “play” fighting to see who the boss is. He has excellent litter box manners and would do great in a home with other resident cats or to be adopted together with any of our other resident cats. Although Val is exposed to dogs, he is pretty neutral about them, but like most cats he does better with dogs who are calm, cool, and collected around cats. A dog that darts and runs to him will absolutely make him run for the counter, as he does not hold his ground, which is likely from his time living on the streets.<br/>Val was rescued as a kitten around 4 months of age, but only arrived at ARWOB the last day of September, at which time he had his medical done. He is a strong and healthy kitty, who is neutered and has tested negative for FeLV/FIV. He absolutely loves toys – all toys! He is easy going and well behaved. He will spend time around you, but so far he doesn’t seek a lot of human companionship. He did seek out human attention when he first arrived, but then he likely reverted back to seeking more cat companionship than human companionship once he came to Casa de ARWOB. We think that if he were to live in a home with no other cats, he might start to request attention and build a rapport with his human family. If you’d like to give him a chance to see if he becomes more of a human oriented kitty, who will become more social and seek pets, we encourage you to request a foster-to-adopt trial to see if he would be a good match.<br/>If you would like to adopt this cutie, please submit an online application at www.arwob.org and we will email or text you to schedule a phone call to discuss your application. We do not hold cat adoption events and only schedule meet and greets at the foster homes. For this reason, we have to process applications prior to scheduling the meet and greet. Don’t wait, as Val would love to meet you. He is ready for adoption! Animal Rescuers Without Borders,Inc.'s Adoption Policy
The A.R.W.O.B. group prides itself on carefully placing animals into responsible and loving homes. We care about the present and future lives of the many unwanted dogs and cats and strive to improve them so they can come to know stability, love and safety. For more information, please visit our website at www.arwob.org. Our adoption procedure is as follows: 1) Adoption Application filed by applicant (visit the applications page to fill one out!). We typically adopt dogs and cats to individuals or families located in San Diego County, Orange County and Los Angeles areas. However, we may consider potential adopters within California, Arizona, and Nevada (within a reasonable driving distance) under certain circumstances. We require that the application be approved ahead of time and a home check must be done via FaceTime Skype (we do not accept videos for this purpose). We would also require the potential adopter to come to San Diego to meet the animal in person and we recommend bringing any current pet(s) to see if they will get along. If the potential adopter opts out of the meet-n-greet with their existing animal(s) and if the new pet does not get along with their existing pets, we would require the adopter to drive back to San Diego to return the animal -- we cannot provide transportation. Our adoptions are time sensitive and our policy is that we do not place holds on any of our rescues. PLEASE NOTE: We have implemented a new policy for those who are currently serving in the military. IF YOU ARE IN THE MILITARY please fill out a short questionnaire in addition to the adoption application. 2) A play date between the applicant and rescue (dog or cat). An applicant MUST have an APPROVED online adoption application filed BEFORE scheduling a playdate at the animal's foster home. The playdate will ensure that the potential adopter and the dog/ cat they are interested in is the right match. If the dog/cat does not possess the qualities and behavioral traits the applicant is looking for, we can continue the adoption process by meeting another rescued dog or cat. You can also meet the animal you are interested in at scheduled adoption events. Approved applicants have priority to meet an animal over others. Please read the events page for more information about meeting an animal at an event and possibly taking them home afterward. 3) Home checks to ensure the safety of our rescues (If applicable). An ARWOB volunteer will contact you upon approval of your application (and the playdate appointment) to schedule a visit to your home. Here we will take a look at where the cat/dog will be living. Your home and yard must be safe and secure. 4) Adoption Contract and ID from applicant If everything checks out during the homecheck and we believe our rescued dog/ cat will live happily there, we will go ahead and sign the adoption contract to makes the adoption official. 5) Adoption fee Fees are different for both dogs and cats and are based on age and, sometimes, on the breed. Please visit the adoption fees page for a break down of all. 6) Denial of adoption applications We screen all of our adoption applications thoroughly in order to find the perfect home for our rescues. There may be times when we feel the adopter is not a good fit based on the answer to questions on their application. Please know that we vet each applicant with the animal's best interest in mind. In the event that your application is denied, you will receive an email letting you know of our decision. However, we will not be able to answer detailed questions regarding the denial.
