All Hail, Mighty Vail! ❄️🐾<br/><br/>Why the name Vail? While many associate it with the scenic Colorado mountain town—full of natural beauty and tranquility—it also carries a rugged, outdoorsy feel. Since this handsome fellow arrived smack dab in the middle of our blustery, snowy winter on January 26, 2026, the name felt like the perfect fit. The name can also imply brave, sturdy, or worthy… and let me tell you, he is all that and more!<br/><br/>Vail was found on the southeast side of town just a few days before intake with an injured right front paw, showing mild soft tissue swelling. But that wasn’t the whole story. At some point he had also injured a toe, and radiographs of his rear limbs revealed mild stifle (knee) joint effusion, suggesting ligament strain or damage.<br/><br/>Which leaves us wondering… what on earth happened to this guy?<br/>Was he scaling snowy mountains? Running from an avalanche? We may never know!<br/><br/>As if that wasn’t enough, his mouth was unfortunately a cesspool of infection and bacteria when he arrived. His dental disease was so severe that we needed to extract all teeth behind his canines. And at five years of age, he was also in serious need of neutering. With all that testosterone surging through him, he had developed some massively adorable tomcat jowls—along with the not-so-glamorous condition known as stud tail.<br/><br/>Now that he’s feeling better, Vail’s personality is shining through—and he is quite the character! He loves to show off his belly, but if there’s a lot of commotion around (as can happen in a shelter environment), he can get a bit overstimulated and turn into a temporary bear trap. The key is simply learning his cues and giving him a quiet space when it’s time for tummy rubs. 😊<br/><br/>Vail gets the afternoon zoomies, loves chasing toys, and enjoys nothing more than a front-row seat at the windows to watch the world go by.<br/>He gets along well with other cats, so feline friends are perfectly fine with him. Vail is FIV positive, but he isn’t a rough-and-tumble kind of guy, so the risk of transmission through biting is considered quite low.<br/><br/>When he’s at Feline Wellness Center with me, Vail is truly the epitome of the purr-fect gentleman, and he’s quite the charmer over at Crash’s as well.<br/>This handsome boy has clearly been through a lot in his past, but now we’re focused on giving him the happy, healthy future he so richly deserves. And with his strength, spirit, and personality, we think Valiant Vail will rule his new kingdom beautifully. 👑🐱
