Tulip- spring time all the time!'s Story

Sweet Tulip, this resilient Bronx girl is just what you need to have springtime all year round.

When we rescued Tulip, she was buried in the snow very close to death. Even though she’s an adult (2-3 years old), she weighed only 3 pounds- the weight of a 12 week old kitten! She was emaciated and starving. Not surprisingly, she was shy and skittish at first. Under the supervision of a veterinarian, she has gained weight and come out of her shell. Today she is a bold, spirited, and playful girl, ready for her forever home.

Tulip will follow you from room to room asking for gentle scratches or face rubs. “Gentle” is the key, she doesn’t care for aggressive petting. Keep it soft and tender, please. She loves petting on her own terms, but if she’s not in the mood she’ll give you a soft smack to tell you “no thank you.” She can be handled and picked up, but doesn’t like to be held for long periods. She’d rather keep her feet on the ground. Tulip is curious and likes to explore, so lots of windows to look out would be welcome, and she’d certainly love a secure catio.

Tulip transforms into a wild woman when chasing toys, reminiscent of a gangly teenager with long limbs flying everywhere, barely under her control. She loves her ribbon toys, also, chasing balls down hallways. Tunnels (tubes) are a favorite to hide and play with, and definitely plan to get this girl a scratcher, it is a favorite. After about 30 minutes of playing, she’s usually ready for a break and loves to nap in the sun. That said, you can expect an evening round of zoomies after she has recharged her batteries.

Generally quiet, when it is time for a meal Tulip is suddenly very chatty, screaming at you to hurry up- who can blame her after nearly starving to death? To this end, she’d do well in a home that has a consistent routine. Knowing when her human(s) would be around and when she’ll eat will be reassuring.

Like most cats, Tulip will take a couple weeks to settle into her new home (expect her to be a little skittish), but once she adapts she’ll be in charge. Tulip is good with other cats and dogs. She is dominant with other cats, though not aggressive. She is tolerant of dogs. Tulip isn’t likely to be your dog’s bestie, but she lives with dogs now and walks by them without a problem.

Tulip is comfortable with strangers visiting the home and is good with teenagers. She is a sensitive girl, and given her preference for gentle touching, we don’t recommend a home with young children. Tulip is looking for a home where she can continue to come out her shell and be herself. She’s so loving and trusting despite all that she has been through, we know she’ll be a wonderful addition your family.

She is dewormed and negative for FIV/FeLV. She will be spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated in the coming weeks and then she is ready to go home! To adopt Tulip, fill out the application here: https://form.jotform.com/250073732465152 The adoption fee is $225. Tulip is in foster in Westchester County, but we travel for great homes.

Saving Belladonna's Adoption Policy
Fill out our adoption application and then someone from our adoptions team will reach out to you! We do require a virtual home check for all adoptions. Adoption Costs: Our fee is $225 for a cat or kitten and $425 for a pair. Kittens under 6 months old will be adopted out in pairs or to home with a current resident cat. Senior or Special Need Cats: When thinking about adopting a cat, don’t automatically rule out senior or special needs cats. These animals have a lower chance of being adopted over a fluffy kitten, but they are just as deserving of a loving home. You will be made aware of any medical or special needs so that you have the ability to consider if it is something that your family can take on. Outdoor Policy: INDOOR ONLY This strictly means the cats may only stay indoors unless we have approved an enclosed catios, leash walking, or in a secure pet stroller.
