Tom's Story
*** Tom is in a foster home. ***

Tom #19847: gray/brown tabby & white, short hair, neutered male, born approx. 6/1/23

Cats: solo kitty
Dogs: definitely not
Children: savvy teens+

BACKGROUND: Tom was found in a colony of cats being fed by a caretaker who noted that he was friendly and knew that he could have a much better life living with his own dedicated people; she reached out to The Rescue House on his behalf.

PERSONALITY: Tom bears the scars of needing to scrounge to survive and has gladly been relaxing since his rescue. This docile and gentle-natured boy enjoys calm interactions; you can quietly give him strokes and spend quality companionable time with him. He is very affectionate! Tom enjoys playing with wand toys and a trackball tower has also gotten his attention. He can sometimes get overstimulated by too-vigorous pets or playtime and may give a nip at those times. He loves sunbeams and will often bask on a windowsill where he can watch the world as well as soak up the warmth. One super-adorable trait is that Tom doesn’t really meow; instead, he quacks like a duck!

COMPATIBILITY: Tom prefers to be an only cat and does not want to live with dogs. We recommend a home with adults or calm and respectful teens.

Will this sweetie win your heart?

While healthy, Tom has tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). This is a type of virus that typically causes some weakening of a cat’s immune system. It is a cat-only virus and cannot be spread through casual friendly contact between cats. FIV+ cats can and do live quite normal lives in quality, duration, and happiness. A good informative website is FIVCats.com.
