Friends of the Animal Community's Adoption Policy
READY TO ADOPT? PLEASE APPLY ON FOAC’S WEBSITE.
Complete the appropriate Dog Adoption Application or Cat Adoption Application at https://www.foac.us/apply-to-adopt.
A Petfinder inquiry or adopter profile does not replace FOAC’s adoption application. If you have already submitted information through Petfinder, you still need to complete the application on our website so our adoption team receives the information needed to review it.
Our team will review your application and contact you about the animal you are interested in, your household, and next steps. Submitting an application does not guarantee an adoption or reserve an animal.
Most FOAC animals live in foster homes. Please contact us before visiting our facility if you hope to meet a specific dog or cat.
MEDICAL CARE AND SPAY/NEUTER
FOAC helps prepare animals for adoption with basic veterinary care appropriate to their age and needs. This includes vaccinations, including rabies when age-appropriate, heartworm testing for dogs, and feline leukemia (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) testing for cats.
FOAC’s animals are spayed or neutered before adoption whenever the procedure can be completed before placement. Puppies and kittens may be adopted before surgery when they are too young or are placed before the procedure is completed. In these cases, FOAC provides a spay/neuter voucher, and the adopter is required to arrange for the procedure to be completed.
When an animal is adopted before required care has been completed, FOAC provides a voucher for that care. Our adoption team will explain any outstanding care and the adopter’s responsibilities.
