Thomas's Story

Meet Thomas, an 11-month-old classic tuxedo with the sweetest little white mittens on his paws, boots on his feet, and a tiny white cap on the tip of his tail. He looks as though he was dressed for winter on purpose. Behind his adorable looks, though, is a story that will tug at your heart.

Thomas and his sister, Tiny, were taken in as kittens and lived in the basement of a building. Although they had shelter, they were often allowed to wander outside. On the night before a terrible snowstorm that left New York buried under 14 inches of snow, both cats were let out as usual. By morning, only Thomas came back. Tiny never returned. I can only imagine what she endured. I hope with all my heart that a kind stranger found her and brought her to safety, but when I think about the storm and the freezing temperatures that night, my thoughts turn painfully dark. After this heartbreaking loss, the superintendent agreed to surrender Thomas so he could finally have the safe, loving life he deserves — not one spent alone in a cold basement.

Despite everything he’s been through, Thomas is an incredibly gentle, affectionate soul. He loves to rub against you, curl up in your lap, and play endlessly with his toys. He’s confident, curious, and full of love, always ready for playtime and just as happy to hop into bed at the end of the day for a good snuggle. Thomas truly thrives on companionship and needs to be with another cat — ideally a female — as he clearly misses having a feline friend after losing his little sister, Tiny.

Thomas has already known heartbreak, but he has so much love left to give. All he’s waiting for now is a forever home where he’ll never feel alone again. 🖤🐾
