Tabby Kitten (cc 7214)'s Story

Animal Control was called..... There are kittens running around. Come pick them up so they'll be safe. Please find them homes..... So, the officer went out on another "there are kittens call". The next thing we knew there were four tabby kittens at the shelter. All four were frightened, and a couple were hissing. They appeared to be from a feral mom (who we're hoping to trap so she can be spayed). Mom was teaching them to survive in this great big world; and she was teaching them well. But kittens are kittens, and with a little patience and love they started coming around. It wasn't long before they learned how good those scratches behind the ears feel. Now they come to the front of the cage when people walk by. (Sometimes they still hiss a little, but they're well on their way to becoming that friendly house cat everyone wants.) When they came in the estimate was 8 to 10 weeks old so we're figuring they're now about 12 weeks old. They have their first distemper vaccination, and have had a first deworming.

We don't name kittens. (There are always so many kittens that we'd run out of names.) We'll leave that to their new families... The four are all brown tabbies, some with a little white. This one was the second to be picked up and brought to the shelter.

If you have any questions, would like more information about the kittens or if you are considering adoption, you can give us a call. Or, speak with an animal control officer through the West Orange Health Department at 973-325-4121. Best yet, stop by and take a look. The Township's Animal Control Facility (commonly called The Animal Shelter) is located at 311 Watchung Avenue, West Orange; and is open Monday through Friday 4:30 - 5:30.... .... (Occasionally additional hours can be made by appointment.)

...........
