Sugar Bear's Story

Meet this adorable little girl with a little extra wiggle in her step!

This sweet kitten has moderate cerebellar hypoplasia, a neurological condition that affects coordination and balance. It means she may walk a little differently, wobble when she moves, or have some difficulty with jumping and navigating certain spaces. But it absolutely does not mean she can't live a happy, playful, and incredibly fulfilling life!

And trust us, she hasn't let being a little different slow her down. She is friendly, outgoing, curious, and playful, and she loves being around people. Her personality is every bit as wonderful as any other kitten, and she is ready to find someone who will see her, not her diagnosis!

Because she has moderate cerebellar hypoplasia, she will do best with a few simple accommodations:

-A safe, stable environment with good traction, such as rugs or carpeted areas, to help her get around more easily.

-Low-sided or easy-access litter boxes that are large so she can get in and out safely.

-Food and water dishes that aren't difficult to tip over, and dishes placed where she can comfortably reach them.

-Limited access to high places and stairs, since jumping and climbing can be challenging and falls can result in injury.

-A little extra patience and supervision while she learns to navigate her environment.

She may do some things differently. She may wobble. She may need a few accommodations. But different doesn't mean less deserving. She deserves a loving home, a safe place to grow, and a family who will celebrate all the things that make her uniquely wonderful!

If you're looking for a kitten who will fill your home with personality, playfulness, and plenty of love, this special girl may be exactly who you've been waiting for!

______________
Want more info on CH? Keep reading below!:)

What is Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH)?
This is a disorder found in cats and dogs which affects the cerebellum. The cerebellum is located in the back of the brain and is responsible for fine motor skills and coordination. So, kittens/cats with CH tend to be wobbly and uncoordinated. It can cause jerky movements, tremors and generally walking and balance problems. It is a non-progressive and non-contagious condition. Symptoms appear at birth although they may not be noticed until the kitten starts walking. It varies from cats to cat from mild, to moderate, to severe.
How does a kitten get CH?
It most often occurs in utero when an unvaccinated, pregnant queen contracts Feline Panleukopenia Virus. During this time of rapid growth that the kittens have, their cerebellum can be attacked by the virus which affects its development.
Can cats with CH live a normal life?
Of course! Depending on the severity of the CH, most cats with this condition learn to cope and live happy, healthy lives! Keeping your CH cat strictly indoors, having designated comfortable spaces for more severe cases (ex carpeted room, x pen area with blankets, etc), using easily accessible litter boxes/potty areas, and having appropriate feeding/watering stations are examples of ways to accommodate your CH cat and help them live more normally!
