Stew's Story

Stew is still awaiting his forever home. He is not a cat that will sit on your lap and purr, and it will take some time before he feels comfortable with you. In all honesty, if you have a cat friendly dog, he will probably love your dog more than you. He is incredibly sweet, and wants so much to love, but unfortunately we got him just a bit too late in the 'socialization window' of his life to teach him that humans are trustworthy. He tries to let his guard down, but likely never will completely, and is easily spooked. He has been in his current foster home 1.5 years, and was taken in from an outdoor colony situation at about 3 months old. He loves other animals, and will gladly play with younger fosters and his foster dog sister but is less trusting of humans. It will take time and a lot of patience, as well as a limited space initially (to force contact and lessen hiding) to begin to form trust with him. This doesn't make him defective or unworthy, and as his foster mom will tell you, having him head boop her hand for a pet makes her feel like she has won the lottery. All Creatures Big And Small, Inc.'s Adoption Policy

All animals accepted into our program are in volunteer foster homes. Since we don't have a shelter building, meet and greets are arranged after an application has been approved. The first step in our adoption process is filling out an adoption application and calling your current/previous veterinarian to say it's ok to release veterinary information to us. Within 48 hours of receiving the application, we will do the veterinary reference check and contact you for additional information and to do a phone interview. If all goes well, a meet and greet is scheduled. All family members must come to the meet and greet (including dogs) to make sure it is a good match and everyone is on board to adopt a new pet. If it is decided that the pet is a good match, an adoption can be done at that time and the pet can go home with you All adopters must live within 500 miles of Lacona, NY. We will not ship pets and all family members, including dogs, must travel to the adoption to be sure the pets and family are good with the potential new adoption.
