All Creatures Big and Small is a non-profit, volunteer dog/cat rescue organization serving Central NY and beyond. We are dedicated to rescuing adoptable pets left homeless for whatever reason – animals in public shelters, both near and far, where they are at high risk of euthanasia due to pet overpopulation, pets given up by their owners because of difficult circumstances, and those in danger of abuse or neglect. We are unable to accept animals with aggression issues into our program due to the nature of our foster homes.
We place adoptable animals in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a new pet into their homes and lives.
Animals in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment, and are placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist pets in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement. To the extent our finances allow, pets in the greatest need take priority.
We are determined to keep administrative expenses extremely low so that virtually every dollar taken in goes directly to the care of the animals. Our group remains interested in and committed to the welfare of the pet beyond the adoption process.
Finally, we strive to work with shelters and other rescues, both in our area and beyond, to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless pets.
All Creatures Big and Small is a section 501(c)(3) pet rescue group, incorporated in Aug 2003, with years of animal and rescue experience amongst our volunteers. "ACBS" is committed to helping the most needy, as well as the readily adoptable, among our most vulnerable creatures.
We are a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to restoring the pets under our care to physical and emotional health as they await placement in loving, responsible homes.
Virtually all donated funds will be spent directly on the care of the animals.
ACBS stands ready to help you, the prospective adopter or foster home, find a companion who will thrive in your home. We are here to assist you in every way possible throughout the adoption process and will continue to be a helpful resource after you have welcomed your new pets into your life.
New York State Rescue Registration Number RR067
All animals accepted into our program and in volunteer foster homes. Since we don't have a shelter building, meet and greets are arranged after an application has been approved.
The first step in our adoption process is filling out an adoption application and calling your current/previous veterinarian to say it's ok to release veterinary information to us. Within 48 hours of receiving the application, we will do the veterinary reference check and contact you for additional information and to do a phone interview. If all goes well, a meet and greet is scheduled. All family members must come to the meet and greet (including dogs) to make sure it is a good match and everyone is on board to adopt a new pet. If it is decided that the pet is a good match, an adoption can be done at that time and the pet can go home with you:)
All adopters must live within 500 miles of Lacona, NY. We will not ship pets and all family members, including dogs, must travel to the adoption to be sure the pets and family are good with the potential new adoption. For local adopters, home visits are arranged at times to make the meet and greet more accessible.
Prior to filling out our application, please note that we will do a veterinary reference check prior to a phone interview to ensure potential adopter's previous/current pets are current on vaccines and annual exams. In order for All Creatures to do the veterinary check, please call your veterinarian to give consent to release the information to us prior to submitting your application.
