Meet Squiggy

Meet Squiggy! He's an adorable 9 month old special needs kitten who is looking for a family that is just as special as he is. Squiggy joined Ten Lives when he was just three days old. He and his sister, Piccolina, were not thriving and their owners reached out for help. Thankfully, our friends at Rhode Island Kitten Kits volunteered to foster Squiggy and his sister so they could receive the care they needed. Despite heroic efforts, Piccolina crossed the rainbow bridge. Squiggy continued to thrive, but it soon became obvious that he was dealing with a number of physical limitations. Thanks to around-the-clock care, Squiggy has grown into a strong and loving feline despite the odds.

Squiggy was diagnosed with severecerebellar hypoplasia, which is adevelopmental condition in which the cerebellum of the brain fails to develop properly. This affects his ability to walk and eat independently. Despite this, Squiggy has the spirit of a lion and has adjusted to his life thanks to modifications and adjustments that his foster parents have made, which they would love to tell you all about. Squiggy utilizes a feeding station so he can eat as independently as possible and he enjoys a diet of mostly wet food.He does not need help expressing his bladder, but he does utilize pee/training pads and low entry litter boxes to go to the bathroom. His foster parents have set up a special space in their home where Squiggy can pull himself around, hang out safely, and have easy access to his litter boxes.

Squiggy recently started physical therapy at Rhode Island Pet Rehab and has been doing his exercises at home. He also has a wheelchair that he is learning how to use, but hasn't quite mastered. His ideal adopters will be patient, flexible, loving, and willing to make accommodations to help Squiggy live his best life. He's currently fostering with cats, but prefers to have personal space.

This special boy is part of our foster-to-adopt program. Did we mention that he has his very own Facebook page? Please submit an app to learn more!

*Cerebellar is not contagious and is non progressive. It is a malformation of the brain that will not get better or worse. Click on the link to learn more!

Please complete an adoption application if you are interested in fostering-to-adopt from Ten Lives!

Apply here:

Ten Lives' Foster-to-Adopt program gives potential adopters the opportunity to interact and bond with a cat in a home setting prior to making a lifelong commitment. This program is a great way to see a cat's true personality and watch how they integrate into your household. Please note, only cats listed as foster-to-adopt are eligible for this program.

How does it work?

Foster-to-Adopt applicants are approved through our normal adoption process and based on the specific needs of the cat. Once approved, you will bring home your new friend and have 60 days to determine whether they are a perfect fit for you and your family. During the 60-day foster-to-adopt period, you will be responsible for providing food and litter; however, Ten Lives will provide outstanding veterinary care at a partner veterinarian. Please note: Ten Lives will not cover care provided by a non-partner veterinarian. Please take this into consideration when submitting a foster-to-adopt application.

At the end of the 60 days, you can make the adoption official by signing an adoption agreement and paying the adoption fee or you can return the cat to the care of Ten Lives. If you wish to continue fostering until adoption, Ten Lives will list the cat for adoption on their website and social media pages!

Ten Lives is a foster-based program and does NOT have a brick and mortar facility with regular visiting hours. We are a 100% volunteer-powered organization and require an approved adoption application prior to scheduling meet and greets with animals. This is out of respect for the time, privacy, and safety of our foster families, as well as helping to ensure our animals are matched to the homes that best meet their needs.

We require that all applicants have a satisfactory veterinary reference and provide proof of homeownership OR landlords approval. We will contact all applicants who meet our minimum requirements within 96business hours of receiving your application.During kitten season wait times may be longer. We ask for your patience as we are all volunteers!

All Ten Lives cats are spayed/neutered, receive age-appropriate vaccinations, are tested for FIV/FeLv and parasites, dewormed, treated for fleas, and microchipped. These services are inclusive of the adoption fee.
