Smudge's Story

Smudge: a dog trapped in a cat's body: a Velcro to humans, loves to play fetch

Smudge's story: I was living with a little old man who unfortunately could not longer care for me, so I was given to a friend of a friend, who reached out to Fitchburg Friends of Felines to find me the perfect home, since I was not working out at their place due to their other cats.

So, hoping their fancy footwork... or, fancy typing... works, and I find a home soon!

First, I am gorgeous, and I know it. With my cute little face and compact build, I am hard not to fall in love with. I have those short little legs and resemble a British fold, but I have no papers or anything to prove it, so I am just... me! And all I ever need is you. No other kitties, thank you.

I am a total attention hog and want to be where the people are. I crave people, am super affectionate and love to play. I will meow softly to get your attention. It is adorable, I admit.

I am at home in both a noisy house and a quiet one. I love to climb and use my scratching pads. I am an expert at chasing balls and mice. I am actually quite tolerant of nail clipping and I super love to be brushed. I am good with children who respect boundaries but I am not sure of toddlers. My foster thinks a quieter home without young children would be best. I tend to agree.

I love my people. I rub up against your legs, stretch up to say hello with my stubby little legs, and even give little hugs. I thrive on attention and happiest when I am involved in whatever you’re doing. I was called a little shadow who enjoys keeping you company — whether that’s lounging beside you on the couch or following you from room to room like a dog.

Did I mention I offer loyal companionship and endless rounds of paintbrush fetch? I am obsessed with fetch, and will happily chase and retrieve it for as long as you’re willing to keep the game going.

I was a dog in a former life.

As for my weird medical history, I came to me with prescription eardrops and gabapentin, because sometimes I get excessively anxious and over grooms. I take the meds easily when mixed into a Churu treat. I am not showing any of these behaviors with my new fosters, though. I was on Prozac for a short time, but the original foster did not think I was a good fit for it and took me off.

I was also diagnosed with environmental allergies, including several common environmental triggers — including humans. Yup, I am allergic to the people I love. There is treatment for me, but it comes in the form of an occasional shot or a stick in my mouth twice a day.

My ideal home would be with someone who wants and has time for an affectionate, loveable and playful kitty, and just one, and has no other pets or kids. I will thrive with a patient, cat-savvy adopter who is home enough to give me regular playtime, affection, and stability. I will thrive in a calm, predictable home and an adopter who understands my sensitivity. I am hoping you are it!

Fitchburg Friends of Felines facilitates a foster to adopt program that places the intended adoptee with the potential adoptive family. This ensures that your feline companion is the perfect fit as well as provides support as you both transition into your new life together.

You can fill out an adoption application here:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe1685w60NjfU2eeE55Cd57TAaEZU7bERjyY825EMto48sTQw/viewform

Please reach out to Fitchburg Friends of Felines directly at 978-222-3170 or fitchburgfriendsoffelines@gmail.com with questions. Fitchburg Friends of Felines, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
Potential adopters are required to have a solid character reference, vet reference, and a site visit which can be conducted virtually. Due to MA regulations, we cannot intake pets from out of state. We offer a foster to adopt program to guarantee the intended kitty is a good fit for your family. We also require that all adopters agree to return the kitty should the adopter no longer be able to care for him or her in the future, or an agreed to person is identified to continue care for this kitty. We are not a brick and mortar; all available cats are kept in foster homes. Therefore, we would need time to schedule a visit to meet a kitty. We are happy to travel to match the perfect kitty for your family. Our adoption fees are normally $250 per cat, $350 for specialty breeds or exotics, and $50 less per kitty if interested in multiples. For specific questions, or for an adoption application, please feel free to reach out to us directly: fitchburgfriendsoffelines@gmail.com or call our hotline: 978-222-3170
