Smudge's Story
Smudge: velcro to humans, loves to play fetch

From Smudge's Foster Mom:

Smudge is a gorgeous velcro kitty searching for her forever home after her elderly caregiver could no longer care for her. As we’ve gotten to know her better, her personality has continued to blossom.

Smudge loves her people. She’ll rub up against your legs, stretch up to say hello (those stubby little legs make it extra adorable), and even give little hugs. She thrives on attention and happiest when she’s involved in whatever you’re doing. She truly is a little shadow who enjoys keeping you company — whether that’s lounging beside you on the couch or following you from room to room.. kinda like a dog.

Playtime is where Smudge absolutely shines. She is obsessed with fetch, and her favorite toy? A paintbrush! Yes, really. She will happily chase and retrieve it for as long as you’re willing to keep the game going.

Smudge is an anxious cat, and we want to be transparent about that and her needs. She is prone to stress-related overgrooming when she feels overwhelmed or when there are big changes in her environment. She is currently taking gabapentin to help manage her anxiety and takes it easily when mixed into a Churu treat. She was previously trialed on Prozac but unfortunately that was not the right fit for her. With a calm, predictable home and an adopter who understands her sensitivity, she will grow into the best version of herself.

Medical Addendum – Smudge

Smudge has been diagnosed with environmental allergies, and her testing showed that she is allergic to several common environmental triggers — including humans. This sensitivity can contribute to skin irritation and overgrooming when her allergies flare.

To help her stay comfortable, her veterinarian has recommended a monthly allergy injection for approximately one year, after which her response will be evaluated to determine whether continued treatment is needed.

If injections feel difficult to manage, there is also a transdermal medication option (applied to the skin) that may be appropriate instead. We are happy to share more details about her treatment plan and what has been working for her.

Smudge needs to be the only cat in the home as she does not do well with other cats and wants her people all to herself. While she has done well with children who are respectful of her boundaries, a quieter home without young children would be best.

Smudge would thrive with a patient, cat-savvy adopter who is home enough to give her regular playtime, affection, and stability. In return, she offers loyal companionship and endless rounds of paintbrush fetch. With her cute little face and compact build, she’s hard not to fall in love with.

Fitchburg Friends of Felines facilitates a foster to adopt program that places the intended adoptee with the potential adoptive family. This ensures that your feline companion is the perfect fit as well as provides support as you both transition into your new life together.

You can fill out an adoption application here:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe1685w60NjfU2eeE55Cd57TAaEZU7bERjyY825EMto48sTQw/viewform

Please reach out to Fitchburg Friends of Felines directly at 978-222-3170 or fitchburgfriendsoffelines@gmail.com with questions.
