Meet Smudge — People Abandoned Him, Yet He Still Loves People <br/><br/>There is something about Smudge that absolutely breaks our hearts.<br/><br/>Smudge lives on the Kitty Trail in Piqua, Ohio — seven miles of winding bike trails through the woods where far too many cats have been abandoned and left to figure out how to survive.<br/><br/>But Smudge is different.<br/><br/>Smudge LOVES people.<br/><br/>People are the reason he is out there...and somehow, he still believes in them. <br/><br/>Every day, volunteers travel the trail, stopping at feeding stations to care for the cats who have been left behind. And every day, Smudge waits for them.<br/><br/>Then he follows.<br/><br/>From feeding station...to feeding station...to feeding station.<br/><br/>Not because he’s hungry.<br/>Not because he’s looking for another bowl of food.<br/><br/>He follows because he just wants to be with them. <br/><br/>While the volunteers make their rounds, Smudge tags along simply because, for that little bit of time, he has people again. Someone to talk to him. Someone to pet him. Someone to remind him what it feels like to belong.<br/><br/>And then the rounds are finished.<br/><br/>The volunteers have to leave.<br/><br/>And Smudge is once again just a sweet, loving cat trying to make a life on a dirty trail where not everyone is kind to the cats who call it home.<br/><br/>This boy wasn’t meant for this life.<br/><br/>He shouldn’t have to follow volunteers down a trail just to feel loved. He shouldn’t have to wonder where he’ll sleep or whether he’ll be safe. He needs a home.<br/><br/>A quiet place to lay his head at night.<br/>A soft bed instead of the dirt.<br/>Someone he doesn’t have to follow because they aren’t going anywhere.<br/><br/>After everything people have done to Smudge, the incredible thing is that Smudge still chooses people.<br/><br/>Now we need just one person to choose him back. <br/><br/>Please help us get Smudge off this trail and into the home he’s been searching for all along.<br/><br/>He doesn’t need another feeding station.
