Skidder's Story

Skidder is #ADOPTABLE from his foster home. Email adoptions@catnapsociety.com to apply for and meet Skidder.

Male, domestic short hair, black

Charm and class wrapped up in a black coat is the best way to describe this handsome boy.

Skidder loves to be with his human. He follows his foster mom everywhere...she is never in a room without him. He takes watching over his human very seriously and needs to be with them to keep them safe. While he isn't a lap cat, he happily sits with you on the couch and will sleep at your feet every night. And he loves nothing better than if that hanging with you gets him long pets down his back from his head to his tail, and an ear and chin scratch in between.

If you want to make Skidder your best friend, the way to his heart is with treats, however he will play that up in order to get as many treats as he possibly can resulting in weight gain. He is currently on a weight management food and has been losing very slowly and this should continue in his new home.

He is very social and enjoys the company of other cats, but if you have a shy one, he might not be the best fit. He has met a dog - an old mostly blind chihuahua, but while he sat in an adjoining room and watched, he made no move to investigate. He

Above all, Skidder is charming. Every person who has visited him has commented on what a wonderful boy he is and how lucky his forever family will be to get this lovely cat. He isn't shy and once he feels comfortable, will come out and greet your guests, hoping for a pet (or better yet, a treat) and to make sure that they are safe to be around you.

If you want a calm, confident, well behaved cat who is still young enough to play and bond with his family, and who wants to take on the important role of family protector, this is the boy for you.

To help Skidder settle into his new space, we recommend starting him off in a smaller safe room so he can adjust gradually and feel safe. Reading the “Rule of Three” document included with the adoption resources will help you help Skidder settle in.

Compatibility
Cats: Yes, Skidder gets along well with the dominant male resident cat, and even enjoyed helping host a couple batches of kittens that were fostered in the home, however the resident female is quite shy and he chases her everywhere.
Dogs: Maybe, Skidder would likely be comfortable, with proper introductions, with a quiet calm dog.
Kids: Older patient, calm, cat savvy teens who would like to put in some trust-building time with their new best friend can be considered

Age
Estimated age: 3 1/2 years

Veterinary Information
• Skidder has been neutered
• Skidder was noted as having mild gingivitis, which can often be corrected and prevented from progressing by using a dental care kibble. A home oral hygiene regimen such as daily tooth brushing, oral gel, water additive, dental powders added to wet food, or dental treats can also reduce bacteria and plaque buildup and are recommended to help support good oral health. Your vet can advise on the best products to help with dental care.
• Skidder is currently over his optimal weight and is on a reduced calorie kibble to help him lose a few pounds. A portion of his current food with brand information will be provided to his new adopter although other weight-loss food options of similar caloric content would also be suitable in assisting him in shedding his excess weight.
• Vaccinated for FVRCP and Feline Leukemia
• Microchipped
• Deflead and dewormed
• Six weeks of pet insurance
• Health record card
• Specific diagnostic testing may also have been done as each cat's health may warrant while in CatNap's care.
