Shirl's Story
Bette Midler sang it: “But ya gotta have friends…” I’m Shirl, a young mother cat who was found in NW Rochester with my four kittens. My babies were very small and were dependent on me, so we all went to a foster home. Our foster mom named us for her best friends from childhood, including, Bernie, Pat, Bev, and Maggie. I was very protective of my little ones, and it took a long time for them to trust anyone but me, so, after they were weaned, I went to the shelter in hopes that they could become more independent. They eventually came to the shelter too, and they have been adopted. Since coming to the shelter, I have become braver about being around people, and I will walk around my colony room and look out the door now when people are around. However, I still I feel safest when perched on a high shelf. I am not comfortable being touched or handled yet. Being here can be overwhelming, and I’d like a friend or two to help me feel safe. If you’re a cat whisperer, I hope you’ll give it a whirl – approach slowly, sit with me, reach out gently, and quietly say my name, “Shirl, ya gotta have friends. Be my girl.”

Adoption fee $100 + microchip fee $30 + tax
