Shere Khan's Story

Shere Khan came into the TNR program as a 5 week old kitten with a severe eye infection in both eyes and all alone in the world. His eyes cleared up with no residual damage; however, he tested positive for FIV at intake (FELV negative). A test at that age only indicates that his mother was FIV positive (only about 20% of kittens born to FIV positive queens are infected with the virus perinatally). Most kittens will test negative for FIV between 4-6 months of age. His repeat test at 4.5 months was also positive but he'll need a final test at six months to confirm his FIV status. FIV is not a risk to humans and most cats only encounter the virus through fighting/deep bite wounds, so he's not a health risk to any people or animals around him.

Because of his uncertain FIV status, he has not had any adoption applications. He's sweet, affectionate and playful. He just wants to play with anyone and everyone, so he's great with other cats. He's never been around dogs in his foster home, but with proper introduction, a cat-friendly dog should be fine. He's done well in adoption events with calm children. When he's done with zoomies and rough-housing with the other kitties in his foster home, his favorite nap spot is on his foster's lap.

He is in foster with Licking County TNR. His adoption fee is $50 and an adoption application can be requested by emailing lickingcountytnr@gmail.com. His foster sister, Allie Whoop, is also available so if you'd like to adopt a pair of kittens, you could adopt them both together and the second adoption fee is discounted so together they would be an adoption fee of $75.

Licking County TNR, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
Any potential adopter can request an adoption application by emailing lickingcountytnr@gmail.com and returning the application to that email address. They can also download a google doc version of the adoption application from the website link provided. We run a basic background check and our volunteer adoption coordinator schedules a phone interview to review the information provided and what they’re looking for in a cat or to discuss the specific foster they’re interested in adopting. Our priority is to place our fosters in a stable home environment that best fits their needs to the extent possible. Our fosters are all homeless at intake and we try to find them living situations where they are not likely to ever experience homelessness again. Once the background check and phone interview are successfully completed, we arrange a meet-and-greet at either an adoption event or one of our foster homes. There is no fee to apply and no obligation to adopt until they have had the opportunity to meet the prospective foster and decide if its a good fit for their home/circumstances. Adoption fees
