Scootch's Story

Scootch is a special boy who will need a patient, kind, and understanding adopter. He started out as a timid outdoor cat who was left food by a member of the community for over a year. When she noticed he had suffered a serious head injury, she stepped in, had him treated, and kept him safe in her home while he recovered. During that time, Scootch slowly began to accept gentle pats and head scratches. He learned that some humans are kind and safe.

Eventually she bought him to MEOW in the hope that he might continue to open up, but it’s clear he has been through a lot. Scootch is still quite shut down and prefers to stay tucked away in a carrier or quiet hiding spot where he feels safe. Scootch will not approach you. He needs time, calm, and space to know that you are safe first.

That said, there is a very soft, loving side to him. When approached gently and given chin rubs, Scootch leans in, makes biscuits, and has even started to purr. His true personality and love is just buried under a layer of fear that hasn’t fully lifted yet. Scootch does have one friend. A little feral cat called Cutie (pictured), who sleeps beside him and checks in on him during the day.

Scootch is neutered, vaccinated, flea-treated, dewormed, microchipped, and in good physical health. What he needs now is emotional safety, a quiet home with someone who understands that trust like his is built slowly over time. For the right person, Scootch may be one of the most meaningful adoptions we can offer at Meow. We will waive the adoption fee for anyone who will offer Scootch the home he needs.

Meow Refuge's Adoption Policy
We aim to place cats in safe, stable indoor homes and take time to make sure each adoption is a good fit. Adopters complete a brief application and have a conversation with us so we can match cats to appropriate homes. Adoption fees help cover basic medical care, and we remain available for support after adoption. Kittens are not adopted out before 12 weeks of age, and we strongly encourage kittens to be adopted in pairs to prevent single kitten syndrome and support healthy social development. Because adoption opportunities in Roswell are limited, we also partner with better-resourced rescue organizations in larger cities to place adoptable cats when that offers the best chance of a successful adoption. If an adoption doesn’t work out, cats are always welcome back at MEOW.
