Scarlet and Melanie's Story
Meet Scarlet and Melanie two gorgeous gray kitties with green eyes, who are best friends, just like in Gone With the Wind - but unlike the movie, they are actually sisters too! Melanie is the braver of the two, greeting visitors and approaching for pets and attention. Scarlet is a little more timid but has been getting braver each day. While the girls look like one another, Scarlet is physically smaller than sis Melanie.

Four years ago these sisters were adopted from Second Chance. Recently their owner became unhoused and had nowhere for the girls to go so they were returned. As one can imagine, after being in a home for 4 years to suddenly be back at the shelter has been a shock. Melanie is adjusting a little more quickly than Scarlet who has been finding comfort in a cubby.

In the past, Scarlet was known to play a little hard at times so if a family were interested in her having kids 12 yrs and older would be ideal. Scarlet is good with pets when approached slowly and gently and will begin to purr and lean her head in for more. Melanie very much wants pets and attention and will eagerly follow you for to get them. In the years since Melanie was adopted she has put on some weight. An interested adopter would be encouraged to monitor Melanie's food intake and give her daily play to help shed a few pounds. The extra weight has made it a challenge for Melanie to groom herself to her liking so she may need a little assistance with an occasional wipe.

These precious girls are considered bonded so will need to be adopted together. Having each other has been a source of comfort. The girls would be great for a single person, a couple, or a family with older kids. Scarlet and Melanie have been around other cats and seem to do well with them.

Scarlet and Melanie have been spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. They have an approximate birthdate of 04-21-2020. Their adoption fee is $190.

If you are interested in Scarlet and Melanie or any of the cats at Second Chance Cats of West Michigan, go to sccatswm.org/adopt to fill out an application, or stop in during open hours on Fridays from 11-2 or Saturdays and Sundays from 11-4.

Please note - we can only adopt to those who live within a one hour drive of Grand Rapids.

Thank you!
