Sara Lee's Story

If you are looking to double the love in your life, we have the ultimate dynamic duo for you. Astro and Sara Lee beauties who look so much alike they could pass for brother and sister! They have spent months together at the rescue, developing an inseparable friendship, a beautiful daily routine, and a shared understanding of what it means to be beautifully unique.

We fully understand that finding a forever home for just one "special needs" kitty is incredibly hard, and finding a placement for two can sometimes feel completely impossible. While they can be adopted separately if the perfect individual homes come along, we still believe in magic. We know there is an extraordinarily special home out there meant for both of them, and seeing these two besties get to stay together forever would be absolutely magical.

Astro and Sara Lee aren't just roommates; they are each other's therapy partners. Sara Lee's hyper-fun, adventurous energy keeps Astro moving and staying active, which is exactly what he needs to build up his muscle strength and maintain his mobility. In return, Astro's calm, gentle presence keeps Sara Lee beautifully grounded. They have a mutual respect for each other's differences, balancing one another out perfectly.

Astro came to us after losing most of the use of his back legs. Thanks to our vets, 'home' physical therapy, and a whole lot of love, he has made incredible strides!

Astro gets around pretty dang well now! He can easily navigate flat floors, get in and out of his litter box, and climb up foam stairs, perch like a prairie dog at the kitchen door to ask for food...

He cannot stretch his hind legs very far or jump, and he cannot move quickly to escape threats.

He is an absolute lovebug who knows how to communicate his needs sweetly and clearly. His favorite pastimes include curling up on a warm lap, sitting right by your side, basking in the sunshine, and greeting every human and kitty he meets.

Now, Sara Lee is Astro's gorgeous "little sister" lookalike and the ultimate companion. She a hyper-fun, energetic girl during playtime, but the second she burns off her energy, she transforms into the ultimate snuggle bug. She and Astro are joined at the hip, constantly playing "follow the leader" around the room until bedtime.

Sara Lee takes her role as Astro's best friend very seriously--she has even become his personal safety inspector! In new situations, she will step up first to assess the risks and make sure everything is completely safe before letting Astro proceed behind her.

Here is what her daily care looks like:

Strict Paté-Only Diet: Sara Lee has a congenital narrowing of her esophagus (a stricture), meaning solid food can get stuck. Because of this, she must have zero access to table scraps, kibble, or other animal food.

Her Daily Routine: She does beautifully on a strict diet of Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Paté! To help her food go down smoothly, she just needs to eat small, frequent meals with her front end slightly elevated (like standing on a small block with her front paws so her mouth is level with her feeder).

Because of Astro's mobility limitations and Sara Lee's dietary needs, these best friends need a slower-paced, attentive home where feeding times can be strictly supervised to ensure Sara Lee doesn't sneak any crunchy snacks, and where they can play safely and be thoroughly pampered together.

Interested in Meeting This Special Duo?
If you have room in your heart for these two besties and are open to providing the gentle, structured care they deserve, we would love to chat with you! We are more than happy to discuss their medical histories, diet, and daily routines in detail to ensure a perfect match.

Please email us at krmasoncounty@gmail.com to ask questions or to set up a meet-and-greet apply at www.kittenresq.net/adoptAll cats come vaccinated against FVRCP, dewormed, on flea preventative, microchipped and surgically altered.

Kitten Rescue of Mason County's Adoption Policy
Thank you for considering adopting a cat from us! This page has important information that you need to know before you adopt from Kitten Rescue. Visitation of cats and kittens is by email appointment only. All available kittens will only be posted on our website kittenresq.net at this time. Our adoption fees are as follows: Kitten (under 6 months) $150 (two for $225) with Microchip Purebred Cats (Special Pricing by Breed) Teens (6-12 months) $95 (two for $150) with Microchip Adults (over 12 months) $75 (two for $100) with Microchip We adopt to qualified homes (indoor only) on a first-come-first-served basis. Kitten Rescue is a privately run, non-profit organization and reserves the right to refuse any adoption that is not in the best interest of the cat or kitten. Please see our adoption principles and policies below. We have an adoption screening process that helps ensure that we place our cats in loving, responsible, and committed homes. We use the screening process to help us understand your needs and expectations and to help determine the best home for each cat or kitten. We want to ensure the health and safety of our cats as well as their compatibility with the adoptive family for a happily ever after! Our principals and policies: Cats must be indoors only. Cats who are kept indoors can reach the ripe old age of 17 or more years, whereas outdoor cats live an average of just two to five years. Cats cannot be declawed. Declawing requires removing all or part of the third bone from their paw. This is not a harmless operation. Also, should your cat get outside, it has no means of defending itself or climbing a tree to get away from predators. Adopter has the financial means to take care of cat. This includes not only food and litter, but also veterinary costs for routine care and for emergencies. If renting, adopter has permission to own pet. Kittens and some adult cats must be adopted in pairs unless you already have a young, compatible cat at home or are at home the majority of the time. It is possible that you might not get the cat or kitten you initially wanted or see on our web pages. We strive to make both our adoptable pets and our adopting families as happy as possible but we may feel that another kitten would be a better fit. All household members must agree to the adoption. The continued health and safety of our cats and kittens is our primary concern. Our volunteers spend hours socializing the cats and kittens and we make sure that all have had proper medical care, immunizations, internal/external parasite control and have been spayed or neutered before adoption. Adoptions are a lifetime commitment. You must plan on taking your cat with you when you move. In the event that you must give up your cat, it must be returned to Kitten Rescue (on a space-available basis) or Kitten Rescue must OK re-homing. Just like with your children, you must have a plan for who will care for your pets should something happen to you.
