Sandy's Story

Sandy has come a long way since arriving from animal services (the last picture is Sandy in the cage where he sat for over 2 months just existing). When he first came in, he was very shut down and unsure of the world around him. With time, patience, and a calm environment, he’s slowly started to rediscover the good things in life, and it’s been really special to watch.

He’s a gentle, loving cat who forms strong bonds once he feels safe. When that trust is there, Sandy is incredibly loyal and affectionate. He loves being brushed, happily enjoys squeeze treats, and will often follow his person around or settle in close by for company. With time, he’s even been known to curl up right on your chest. He’s playful too, but prefers to engage on his own terms.

Sandy will need a patient home that understands he does things at his own pace. He can be a bit guarded at first and will take some time to come out of his shell, but he is never aggressive. He just needs space, consistency, and a quiet spot to retreat to when he feels overwhelmed. He’s already made great progress, gaining the confidence to come downstairs, stay present during everyday household noises like the robot vacuum or garage door, and be part of daily life.

He tends to feel most comfortable with female caregivers and responds especially well to a gentle voice and calm presence. Male figures and deeper voices can still make him nervous, so any male household members will need to be very patient and allow Sandy to build trust in his own time.

Sandy has a healthy appetite and uses his litter box reliably. He has shown curiosity around other cats and, after an initial adjustment period, has done well with a calm male cat, even engaging in play. That said, he would likely do best as the only pet or in a home willing to give slow, thoughtful introductions. He hasn’t had experience with female cats yet.

Sandy is looking for a quiet, understanding home, ideally with a female adopter, where he can continue to grow in confidence. For the right person, he’ll be an incredibly rewarding companion, the kind of cat who quietly becomes your shadow and your little buddy once he knows he’s safe.

Contact us to meet this sweet boy - info@werescuecats.ca
