Sage's Story

Meet Sage.

Before she ever knew the comfort of a warm bed or a gentle touch, Sage was out in the coldpregnant, alone, and fighting every single day just to survive. Through snowstorms and freezing nights, she held on. Not just for herself, but for the tiny lives depending on her.

Kind strangers made sure she had food, and somehow, through it all, Sage stayed strong. She protected her babies, carried them safely, and never gave up.

Sage is currently in foster care with wonderful humans, but is still looking for her furever home

Her foster pawrents write:
She is a very shy and quiet cat looking for a calm, patient home that will let her settle in at her own pace. She enjoys being around people in her own way and will often quietly observe whatever youre doing, whether thats cooking, watching TV, or moving around the house. Much of the time, she prefers to hang out in cozy hiding spots like under the couch or tucked onto a shelf where she feels safe.

She absolutely loves food and is highly food motivated, which is the easiest way to win her trust. During mealtime or treats, she becomes much more social and will happily come say hello and even accept some pets. Outside of that, she is not currently a cuddly or affectionate cat and will usually retreat if approached too closely. She will likely always be somewhat shy, even after settling in.

She enjoys looking out open windows and quietly watching the world go by. She gets along well with other cats and would likely benefit from having a confident feline companion around. She can also tolerate calm dogs.

She will need an adopter who understands that trust may take weeks or even months to build. While she may never become a lap cat, she has a gentle presence and would do best with someone who appreciates quieter, independent cats and is willing to let her bloom on her own timeline.

For more information and instructions on how to apply, please visit https://thepetrefuge.org/adopt/ Completing an adoption application is always the first step. Shelter visits are by appointment only and available to applicants whose applications have been approved.

We also invite you to follow us on social media: Facebook at Pet Refuge, TikTok @petrefugenk and Instagram @petrefugeri
