ROO's Story
Roo is an estimated 5–7yr old strikingly beautiful girl who came into the shelter as a stray, so her past is a bit of a mystery. What we do know is that she’s a strong, spirited cat who’s been learning, slowly but surely, that humans can be kind.
When Roo first arrived at the shelter, she was very scared and understandably feisty. In foster care, she’s already made meaningful progress. She now enjoys licking Churu treats while sitting near (or even on!) her foster mom’s lap, plays with wand toys, and will take treats gently by hand. She’s also started allowing pets with a slow approach while she’s eating or enjoying a treat.
Roo is still cautious and prefers interactions on her own terms. You can’t just walk up and scoop her up, but she’s learning to trust. She may hiss or growl when she’s unsure, and occasionally give a swat, but she no longer uses her claws and is clearly trying to communicate or set her boundaries rather than hurt.
Underneath her spicy exterior is a cat who wants to be loved she’s just figuring out how to accept it. A special moment after her dental surgery showed her softer side, as she leaned into pets while waking up, and since then she’s continued to make small steps forward.
Roo will need a patient, understanding home that will give her the time and space she needs to blossom. She may not become a cuddly lap cat, but with love and consistency, her potential is wide open. Expect several months for her to fully settle in but for the right person, watching Roo grow and gain confidence will be incredibly rewarding. Roo hasn’t been cat or dog tested so it’s unknown how she would do living with another animal. She would do best in a calm home either with older children that can respect her boundaries or no children. A slow & patient approach will help Roo thrive.
