Ron's Story

Ron used to be a feral "community" cat. He was born and spent most of his life outside and was happy living with his colony... until someone started poisoning them. We don't know if it was intentional cruelty, or if the cats were eating poisoned rats, or accidentally eating poison someone had set out to target rats, but some of his family members passed away from this, and we couldn't let any more cats meet such an awful fate. So, some rescuers banded together and took in all the cats we could from that area.

That was back in October. Since then, Ron has been in "socialization school" learning how to be an indoor-only cat! He's come so far, from being a scared, shy boy to loving treats and even curling up in his foster dad's lap for cuddles!

Recently we were able to take Ron to the vet for vaccines and to be tested for FIV/FeLV (he is negative!), which meant he could finally meet his foster's resident cats. While he gets along with them for the most part, he does get over excited sometimes, which freaks them out a bit. I'm wondering if he would do better as an only cat, and would love to give him the opportunity to give that lifestyle a try.

Ron is available for foster, foster-to-adopt, or adopt! Backyard Cats of Bed-Stuy's Adoption Policy
I ask that everyone interested in adopting a cat from me starts the application process by filling out my adoption application! The more details you can provide, the better. You can find the app here: https://www.backyardcatsofbedstuy.com/adoption-application Once I've received your application, if I'm interested in moving forward I'll reach out to schedule a Zoom call (or sometimes an in-person meeting, where possible). I often have the foster join as well to talk more specifically about each cat's personality and needs. If the meet-and-greet goes well, and if requested, the potential adopter can arrange a time to meet the cat(s) at their foster homes, or they can start out with a trial "foster-to-adopt" period of one month, to make sure it is a good fit for both cats and humans. A cat isn't considered "fully adopted" until they have been through proper vetting (spayed or neutered, given rabies and FVRCP vaccines, tested for FeLV and FIV, microchipped, and dewormed and treated for fleas). I love to stay in touch with my adopters and often receive updates about their new pets thriving in their forever homes!
