Romeo aka Sassafras's Story

Romeo, a lover and a fighter. (stuffed animals beware)

I was trapped in Pepperell by a homeowner concerned with all the kitties running around the neighborhood. I was one of 6 cats removed, and no one seemed to be missing me after I was reported to Animal Control and advertised on Facebook, so Fitchburg Friends of Felines placed me with a foster mom who is loving me and trying to make me like her dog. She is not succeeding with the dog part.

When I was first taken in, I was a bit of a grump. Probably because I was not fixed. Well, that was taken care of, and it took the edge off. However, I am still a loner. My foster calls me Romeo because I am a lover and a fighter.

I love myself. I know I am gorgeous. I have the silkiest fur that my foster mom cannot keep her hands off of. Which is a huge issue for me, since I am an independent type. I'm more of a strong, non-public display of affection type of guy, not a love me all the time type. I am a loyal companion, but just trying to be tolerant of my foster mom's lovey dovey behaviors.

I love my foster mom, but she is trying to make me a cuddler. I am not lap cat and happy to be around you, but stop slobbering all over me!

I like to rub up against my mom, but that is probably the most love and attention I can give at a time. My foster believes if I was an owned kitty, I did not get any attention at home. I definitely am not a picker upper nor a lap cat. Laps are the last thing I want to be on. Love me for the Braun I am, and not a squishy lap cat. I am no cuddler, but I like to spend time with my human. I will follow my human around the house, but not sit on my human.

I guess you could say I walk all over my human. Literally. When I walk accross the bed in the middle of the night to get from point A to point B, the shortest route is accross the human in the bed. I do not stop to lay on her, and she gets it. Well, sometimes. She is stubborn.

I do enjoy the company of people. When my mom has guests over, I am confident to stay put and let the neighbors also enjoy my gorgeousness. I am definitely not afraid of people.

I like to wander wherever my mom goes. When she lays down on the couch and watches TV at night, I am up on the back of the couch by her feet. She is always trying to touch me. She does not give up.

I allow kisses, on my terms. I allow for one kiss. I come and sit Infront of my human. I allow her to lift me up by my front legs and she kisses my head, and then lets go. More than one kiss is too much romance for this Romeo.

One thing I do enjoy, is helping my foster with her morning routine. She showers, and I wait patiently in the bathroom for her. I just want to be sure she does not get lonely.

I am an an amateur vocalist. I sing for my food. I let my foster know I am in need of my meal by screaming at the top of my lungs. Apparently, I could use a vocal coach to hone in my talents.

I am now the Walmart Greeter. I wait for my mom at the door when I hear her coming home. I think she actually likes that.

I am a lover with stuffed animals. Maybe, too much. I like to consider them my girlfriends. Hey! If you saw the way they were looking at me... I swear they all want me... So, I give them love. Let's just leave it at that.

I like to nibble. I mean, not hard. But my foster is always stopping me once I start. I find it amusing. Her... Not so much. Sometimes I get overstimulated and bite, which is more than just a nibble. I need a cat savvy human that recognizes this behavior so I don't bite.

I have an agreement with the dog. He was here first, so I know he is not going anywhere, but I don't care for him. We both have a mutual agreement. We share mom. I don't really agree with that, but he is a big dog. I pick my battles.

My ideal home would be with someone not looking for a mushy type. Someone looking for a non-lap cat, but a companion or buddy who does not mind a stalker that will follow my person around. I need someone who understands cat body language. They will understand that I have plenty of love to give but on my own terms. I would likely need to be an only pet as I am very unsure about dogs and don't like sharing my human's attention with others. I am hoping my human will be my BFF.

Fitchburg Friends of Felines facilitates a foster to adopt program that places the intended adoptee with the potential adoptive family. This ensures that your feline companion is the perfect fit as well as provides support as you both transition into your new life together.

You can fill out an adoption application here:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe1685w60NjfU2eeE55Cd57TAaEZU7bERjyY825EMto48sTQw/viewform

Please reach out to Fitchburg Friends of Felines directly at 978-222-3170 or fitchburgfriendsoffelines@gmail.com with questions. Fitchburg Friends of Felines, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
Potential adopters are required to have a solid character reference, vet reference, and a site visit which can be conducted virtually. Due to MA regulations, we cannot intake pets from out of state. We offer a foster to adopt program to guarantee the intended kitty is a good fit for your family. We also require that all adopters agree to return the kitty should the adopter no longer be able to care for him or her in the future, or an agreed to person is identified to continue care for this kitty. We are not a brick and mortar; all available cats are kept in foster homes. Therefore, we would need time to schedule a visit to meet a kitty. We are happy to travel to match the perfect kitty for your family. Our adoption fees are normally $250 per cat, $350 for specialty breeds or exotics, and $50 less per kitty if interested in multiples. For specific questions, or for an adoption application, please feel free to reach out to us directly: fitchburgfriendsoffelines@gmail.com or call our hotline: 978-222-3170
