FIV attacks the immune system leaving a cat vulnerable to recurrent infections. There currently is no cure for FIV, but infected cats can live fairly normal lives for years. FIV is transmitted through deep bite wounds. Casual contact such as sharing food/water bowls, mutual grooming, etc. is unlikely to spread FIV. However, we recommend that this cat be an only cat or live with other FIV+ cats. This cat will also benefit from interactive toys such as wands and ball spinners while playing. We are happy to speak with you more when you visit and can provide post-adoption resources.
