RICO SUAVE's Story
RICO SUAVE
Need I say more?
Okay, I guess I do—because I want this stunning boy to get himself adopted!
This approximately 4-year-old handsome guy was live-trapped last summer and returned to his colony. But something changed this year. Rico decided that people weren't so bad after all—and when he became friendly, his caretaker knew he deserved a chance at something more than life on the streets.
He was brought to a local veterinary clinic for an exam and some initial dental work. A week later, he came into our care.
And that's when we discovered just how much this sweet boy had been dealing with.
Rico was profoundly anemic, with a red blood cell percentage of only 16% when it should be at least 30%. He had lost significant weight and arrived weighing just 7 pounds. He also needed additional dental surgery and extractions because of ongoing dental disease and retained tooth roots from his initial procedure.
Further testing eventually confirmed what we suspected: Rico was battling a blood parasite that was destroying his red blood cells.
Thankfully, we started treatment right away. His latest lab work is showing improvement, and he'll simply need to continue his medications for a longer course while his body finishes recovering.
But here's the really important part about Rico:
This boy is an absolute love.
He already knows his name. Call him, and he'll give you his best elevator butt before demanding to be picked up.
And once he's in your arms?
Rico wraps his paws around your neck and clings to you like a little monkey. It's ridiculously adorable—and completely irresistible.
He loves people. He loves attention. He's playful. He gets along beautifully with other cats. And after everything he's been through, he somehow remains one of the nicest, most chill guys you'll ever meet.
Rico Suave is FIV-positive, but honestly, who cares?
Because Rico?
He's too busy being fabulous.
He isn't a fighter. He isn't a biter. He's a laid-back, affectionate guy who would much rather be hanging out with his people than getting into trouble. FIV is simply one small part of his medical history—not a description of who he is.
What describes Rico is this:
Handsome. Affectionate. Playful. Easygoing. A total cuddle monkey.
He would do wonderfully in a home with older children and would love having a feline friend—or two to keep him company.
Rico spent his first few years surviving life on the streets.
Now he knows what it feels like to be loved.
All he needs is someone who sees what we see.
A spectacularly handsome boy with an even more spectacular personality—and a whole lot of love waiting to be wrapped around someone's neck. He’s smooth. He’s stunning. He’s suave!
