Richard - Active loverboy!'s Story
*Seeking a big-hearted adopter*
Richard needs the kind of person who doesn’t shy away from a challenge, but leans in and says, “I’ve got you.” This adorable guy isn’t your average cat, and we’re not looking for an average home. We’re looking for someone willing to see past the obstacles, believe in his potential, and give him the chance most wouldn’t. Richard is an expert at all things chase-and-pounce and absolutely thrives on interactive play. Keeping him busy isn’t just fun for him—it’s the key to helping him shine.

Beyond his playful side, Richard is a people-oriented guy who genuinely enjoys companionship. He’ll follow you from room to room, rub up against your legs, and keep a watchful eye on whatever you’re doing. And when he’s feeling extra affectionate? You just might find him curled up in your lap, soaking in the love.
Richard’s journey hasn’t been without challenges, and it’s shaped how he interacts with the world. He previously experienced a dog bite to the head and was encouraged to play with hands, which has led him to rely on rough, overstimulated interactions at times.

Because of his past, he can become overstimulated and will need an experienced, adult-only home that understands cat body language and respects his boundaries. He’s looking for someone patient and committed—someone who can give him structure, consistency, and positive outlets for his energy. He may benefit from a behavioral medication to help him navigate his anxiety and to work with a behaviorist, which OAHS will help connect his new adopter with.
Although Richard has only ever lived indoors, he may be a good fit as a barn or working cat, where he can safely use his natural instincts; or he could continue life indoors with plenty of enrichment—think climbing trees, sunny window views, and daily play sessions to keep his mind and body busy. For the right person, Richard will be an incredibly engaging, entertaining, and rewarding companion.
Despite the challenges in his past and the obstacles he still faces, we’re committed to giving Richard the chance he deserves—and we’re hoping to find someone out there who feels the same.
