Rhea - Purrmanent Resident's Story

Rhea arrived at the end of January 2024 in the early stages of pregnancy—not her first—and burdened with a heavy load of intestinal parasites. She was malnourished, terrified, and heartbreakingly tiny. Life had clearly not been kind to her.

I wrote about Rhea some time ago, but her story was never published. At the time, she was simply too timid and unsure of her surroundings—and of human caretakers—to even consider putting her on the adoption circuit. She kept herself small, quiet, and unseen, doing her best to survive without drawing attention to herself.

Then her best friend, Peridot, was adopted. While we were thrilled for Peridot, Rhea struggled with the change and seemed to regress emotionally. That changed when Nella arrived. From the moment they connected, Nella became a calming presence for Rhea, and the two now move through life like long-lost sisters—quietly bonded, deeply connected, and clearly comforted by one another.
We estimate that Rhea was born in early 2021. She was named after the pint-sized Rhea Perlman, fittingly rescued by the same person who saved our little Danny DeVito (RIP, sweet boy).

Today, Rhea is doing remarkably well in the Clubhouse. She remains very shy, but she is gentle and surprisingly easy to handle. I’m able to do her weekly cat checks more easily now, as she’s far more relaxed in calmer, low-activity environments. Once she trusts you, Rhea reveals herself to be an incredibly sweet girl.

It’s hard to imagine her in just any home—but with the right, patient person willing to take a chance on a sensitive soul, it is possible. One thing is certain: Rhea would absolutely need a feline companion. We all agree that Nella is her perfect match. If someone were to open their heart and home to both girls together, they would qualify for our Bonded Buddy Program.

Rhea may never be the cat who runs to greet you—but for someone who understands quiet love and gentle trust, she has so much to give.
💛
