Raisin's Story

Raisin is about two years old, and was initially adopted from our shelter in 2024. At the end of 2025, she was returned to us. We were told it was because of a relationship split, but Raisin was having severely loose stools immediately after coming back to the shelter, and so we began to suspect that her digestive issues may have been the real reason for her return.

After working with the vet, ruling out parasites through rigorous deworming, trying different foods, and a round of prednisolone, we have found that a hydrolyzed diet (with occasional raw cat food as a treat) was the only thing that helped us to get Raisin back on track. We had days where we weren't even sure Raisin was going to make it, but now she is now feeling better, her coat is glossy again, and her stools are much more formed! Needless to say, she will need monitoring and a special diet for the remainder of her life. If you have a cat at home that eats "regular" food, and you want to be able to free-feed that cat, then Raisin isn't a good match for you. But she'd be a great fit for someone that either has a cat already eating a hydrolyzed diet, or for someone that doesn't mind having to feed two different types of food at mealtime. We would provide some of Raisin's food for her adopter to take home to get started.

Raisin is a delightfully spunky, sweet, funny little cat. She would drive a grumpy senior cat nuts, but would be a good fit for a home with another energetic cat her age. She loves playing with catnip toys and giving hugs!

(All cats we adopt out are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccines, tested for FeLV/FIV, treated for fleas, dewormed, and microchipped)

Our adoption application and policies can be found here:

www.secondchancear.org/adopt-1
