QBert's Story

Please read through the entire posting and requirements before applying via our questionnaire at https://alleycatproject.org/adopt
Please do not submit an inquiry via Petfinder.

Meet Q*Bert, a vision-impaired, shy boy who loves snacks, scratching posts, and a cozy nap! He is approximately 3-6 years old (but we really aren’t sure).

This blue point Siamese loves to lick churu off fingers, nestle in a sweater drawer, and flaunt his belly for views only (no touching yet!). His favorite things include any food or treat and a cardboard scratching pad.

Q*Bert is shy and tentative about people and being pet, but he is opening up more every day. Where once he hid and only came out hiss for dinner, now he wanders his room, walks up to his people, and eats and plays in their presence. He has become quite the goof- showing off his belly, rolling around, and chasing jingly toys. He still isn’t much for being pet, but if there is a good snack involved, he is more willing to take a few pets to his chin or back.

Q*Bert was found in Seattle’s Mt. Baker neighborhood, very hungry and with a collar but no tags. He was unfixed and not chipped, so we believe he may have been dumped in the neighborhood. He has some feral qualities, especially at the vet, but is becoming more comfortable and interested in people everyday.

He sometimes hisses in greeting or if he feels he hasn't had enough food, but it seems more as a reaction to not being able to see well, he is not usually aggressive and often chooses to leave a situation if he becomes to anxious. However he has not enjoyed trips to the vet (vets have used full gloves and requested sedation). Qbert still needs his space but seems to be willing to slowly trust.

Q*Bert is definitely low vision, but we don’t think totally blind. He has navigated up and down a couch and shelves on his own, but sometimes misses a step or can’t find things in front of him. He is fully litter box trained (though loves to dig and throw the litter) and will happily eat as much as is offered. Q*Bert may not be a future lap cat or snuggle bug, but it seems like he is interested in proximity, and with consistency and patience he may warm up further. We feel he will keep opening up with someone experienced and patient with undersocialized cats, ideally in a quiet home where he is the only pet.

What Q*Bert’s looking for in a home:

- He’s new to indoor life with humans, so he needs a kind and patient guide to help him continue adjusting. Loud noises, fast movements, and strangers make him nervous.
- He’ll need extra time and TLC to build trust.
- He feels at ease in a quiet and calm environment.
- He needs to live indoors only.
- He has no known history with other cats.
- He prefers to be the only cat in the house.
- He has no known history with dogs.
- He would prefer not to have dogs in the home.
- He prefers to be the only pet in the house.
- He has no known history with children.
- He would prefer to be in a home with no children.

All Alley Cat Project’s cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated prior to adoption. Consistent with Association of Shelter Veterinarians (ASV) guidelines, ACP follows current shelter medicine practices and does not routinely test every healthy, low-risk cat for FIV and FeLV.

Alley Cat Project adoption fees are:

- $200 per cat or kitten
- $350 for pair of cats or kittens
- $50 for senior cat (over 8 years old)
- Flexible reduced fees for a cat with a chronic medical condition that requires ongoing care
- Adjustable fee upon request for adopters who are low income, and seniors, disabled, or others with fixed incomes.
- Additional charitable donations are appreciated and support our overall rescue efforts

Thank you for your interest in adopting Q*Bert! If your household fits the above criteria, you can apply to adopt him by filling out this questionnaire: https://alleycatproject.org/adopt

Only applicants who complete the questionnaire will be considered. Please do not submit an inquiry through Petfinder, as it will not replace the questionnaire and we will not respond. Many of our cats receive numerous applications, and we thank you for your patience while we review applications and find the best match. Local Seattle applicants only, please.

Please do not follow up on your application by phone or email as this will not expedite a response.
