Floyd County Humane Society's Adoption Policy
The Floyd County Humane Society reserves the right to deny any application on a companion animal for any reason. The applicant will always be informed as to why they were denied. Denying an application is not a personal attack on the applicant, in many cases, the denial is because we, at the Humane Society, do not feel that the animal and family will be a good match. This does not mean that the applicant would certainly be denied in the future. Some of the reasons the applicant may be denied: bad vet or personal references, lying on the application, refusing a home check, past history of returning/rehoming animals, or inadequate supervision. In some cases, we receive two applications on the same animal. In this case, it is up to the discretion of the Humane Society to decide which family would be the best fit for the animal. The Floyd County Humane Society is staffed solely by volunteers. The application process can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, depending on how soon references can be reached and if there are any concerns about the application. Unfortunately, some applications are denied, but it is done in the best interest of the animal. If there are any questions or concerns as to why an application was denied, the applicant can reach out to the contact person or email the Society.
