Puffin's Story
Sweet, petite and dressed in a beautiful black and white tuxedo coat, Puffin is a lovely little kitten who is looking for someone who will give her the time and patience she needs to come out of her shell.

Puffin arrived at ARF in mid-June after being surrendered along with her siblings, Zebra, Penguin and Panda. These four littermates began their journey at ARF together and now Puffin is ready to find a forever home where she can continue growing, learning, and building confidence.

Puffin is described as a little timid, but it's important to remember that coming into a shelter can be an understandably scary experience for a kitten. New surroundings, unfamiliar sounds, new people, and a completely different routine can be overwhelming. Being shy in that environment doesn't necessarily tell the whole story of who a kitten will become once she feels safe and secure.

Puffin's ideal adopter will be patient and willing to let her progress at her own pace. A few simple things can make a big difference.
Let her come to you. Rather than chasing or forcing interaction, sit nearby and allow Puffin to approach when she's ready. Quiet company can help her learn that you're safe.
Use a calm voice. Gentle talking and slow movements can help her become accustomed to your presence without feeling overwhelmed.
Make playtime fun. Interactive toys, such as wand toys, can encourage her to engage while allowing her to maintain a comfortable distance.
Use treats and positive reinforcement. Rewarding brave behavior with a favorite treat or praise can help Puffin learn that good things happen when she ventures out of her comfort zone.
Be consistent. A predictable routine for meals, play and quiet time can help a nervous kitten understand what to expect.

Puffin does not have to be adopted with her siblings. Zebra, Penguin and Panda can all find homes individually. However, because they arrived at ARF together, we always like to make potential adopters aware of their littermate connection in case someone is interested in keeping some of the siblings together in a forever home.

If you have a calm home, a patient heart and a little room in your life for a sweet girl who is still finding her confidence, Puffin may be the perfect match.

The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times. If you are not available during those times, special arrangements for a meet and greet may be able to be arranged by emailing arfcats@bereaanimalrescue.com. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!
