Pollyanna (courtesy post)'s Story

Pollyanna is as positive as can be. She’s optimistic and only knows the bright side of life, even though she was in very rough shape when she was rescued. One night, she appeared before a volunteer with a bloody face and wheezing, suffering from a severe upper respiratory infection that required urgent medical care.

But that didn’t dampen her spirits. Pollyanna continued to play, eat, and cuddle into her foster mom as if she was perfectly healthy. She is truly a resilient and loving girl.

Pollyanna is a 2-year-old domestic short hair tabby who is spayed and vaccinated. She is FeLV positive, which means she is immunocompromised. Because of this, she should be the only cat in the home unless there are other FeLV-positive cats.

Despite her diagnosis, Pollyanna is cheerful, cuddly, and playful. Petersburg Animal Care & Control's Adoption Policy
Thank you for your interest in adopting from Petersburg Animal Care & Control! We’re so glad you’re considering giving a shelter pet a loving home. We do not charge an adoption fee; however, all animals must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and the cost of the procedure is covered by the adopter. We’re happy to support adopters by coordinating appointments with our low-cost veterinary partners for spay/neuter services and other basic care needs. Adoption Process • We prefer to schedule appointments for meet-and-greets to ensure that staff or volunteers are available to spend adequate time helping you get to know the animal. • When you arrive, please sign in and wait to be escorted by a staff member or volunteer before entering the kennel areas. • For safety reasons, please do not reach into kennels or attempt to touch animals through barriers. If you’re interested in a particular pet, our team will bring them to a meet-and-greet area for proper introductions. • After your visit, you’re welcome to submit an adoption application. Applications must be approved before we can schedule a meet-and-greet with your family pets. • Meet-and-greets with personal pets are by appointment only, and for safety, two staff members must be present to handle all animals involved. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make each match the best fit possible — both for our animals and their future families.
