Pistachio's Story
Pistachio Available for Adoption

Meet Pistachio A Special Cat Looking for a Special Person

Pistachio's journey has been one of patience, trust, and remarkable progress. When he first came to BFF nearly a year ago, he appeared to be feral. He felt safest tucked away in his cage and would allow only gentle head pets through the bars. Even with the cage door left open, he refused to venture out.

Over time, Pistachio moved into a room of his own. While he would hiss when approached, he slowly learned that people could be trusted. With guidance from our veterinarian and the addition of Prozac to help ease his anxiety, Pistachio has truly begun to blossom. After four months on medication, he has made incredible strides.

Today, Pistachio enjoys being petted and brushed, and he happily spends time with people who are willing to move at his pace. He'll even meow to let you know when he's hungry! He has become much more confident and will often approach his people, although sudden movements can still startle him, causing him to retreat.

Pistachio was found as a thin, hungry cat living outdoors in an unsafe area. No one came forward to claim him, and although returning him outside was considered, it simply wasn't the right option for him. He also experienced some digestive issues when he first arrived, but those have been successfully managed with a special diet, and he is now doing very well.

These days, Pistachio is a handsome, mottled gentleman who has traded being too skinny for being a little too chubbyso a few pounds off wouldn't hurt! More importantly, he is a cat who has worked incredibly hard to learn that the world can be a safe place. Pistachio gets along well with his foster kittens, who have helped show him how to play and build confidence. He enjoys interactive toys and will sometimes chase a wand teaser, especially when he's feeling relaxed and comfortable. While he enjoys the company of other cats, Pistachio would likely do best with a calm, respectful feline companion who won't constantly be in his face or demand his attention. A laid-back cat who allows him his space could be a wonderful match.

Pistachio is looking for a patient, understanding adopter who will celebrate every little victory and allow him to continue building confidence at his own pace. In return, you'll get the privilege of watching a truly special cat continue to grow and thrive. Once he is comfortable in his new home with his new person, he can be slowly weaned off the Prozac but with the vets guidance.

Could that special person be you?

Pistachio is approximately 3 years old, neutered, negative for FeLV and FIV, and up-to-date on all his shots.
