Piko de Gato's Story
## Meet Piko de Gato

If you've never met a cat who can carry on a conversation, we'd like to introduce you to Piko de Gato.

This handsome five-year-old black-and-white gentleman has one of the biggest personalities at Edgar & Ivy's Cat Sanctuary. Piko is wonderfully vocal and always has something to say. He'll greet you when you walk into the room, happily tell you about his day, and make sure you're never lonely. His enormous tomcat cheeks, expressive face, and goofy charm have made him a favorite among our staff and volunteers.

Piko's life didn't begin with kindness. He was rescued after being found covered in orange spray paint across his head and legs, the victim of heartbreaking cruelty. Thanks to veterinary care and a lot of love, he has completely recovered from his past and now spends his days doing what he loves most--being with people.

Piko is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and **FeLV-positive**.

Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) affects only cats and **cannot** be passed to people, dogs, or any other species. Because FeLV is spread through prolonged close contact between cats, Piko is looking for either a home where he can be the **only cat** or one with another FeLV-positive cat who could use a best friend.

Many people are frightened by the words "FeLV-positive," but Piko doesn't let his diagnosis define him. Today he is happy, affectionate, social, and full of life. While FeLV can shorten a cat's lifespan by making the immune system more vulnerable to illness, every cat's journey is different. Some FeLV-positive cats live only a few years after diagnosis, while others enjoy many wonderful years filled with love, play, naps in sunny windows, and family life. What matters most isn't how many days Piko has--it's making sure those days are spent in a home where he is cherished.

Piko has already survived cruelty. He's overcome more than any cat should ever have to endure, yet he still greets the world with trust, curiosity, and an open heart. He doesn't know he has a diagnosis. He only knows that he loves people, enjoys a good conversation, and is patiently waiting for someone to choose him.

If you've ever considered opening your heart to a special cat, this is your chance. Piko isn't looking for someone to feel sorry for him. He's looking for someone to laugh at his chatter, admire those adorable cheeks, and love him for exactly who he is.

Could that someone be you?
