Perry is a 4 year old shorthair, black tabby, neutered male cat.<br/><br/>***This is a courtesy post for a FIV positive cat in our community***<br/><br/>What is Perry like in the home?<br/> Perry has been very calm when he's been in the house. He tends to spend most of the time relaxing, but his time inside is a little limited since we are balancing our other pets at the same time. He does love to explore and has begun to start doing a little lap time. He is an absolute doll and we would keep him if we had the room, but we just don't. <br/><br/>Are they skittish or confident?<br/> Sudden noises can startle him, but overall he seems very deliberate in everything he does, so he does not appear to be the timid sort of personality. He is like the Fonzie of cats. Calm, cool and collected.<br/><br/>What are their favorite things to do?<br/> He enjoys stretching out somewhere and relaxing. In general, he stays off the furniture, but has begun to enjoy a recliner once in a while. A nice spot on the floor seems to suit him just as well. He still likes to expend some energy, so he'll bat around a ball once in a while, chew on string or yarn, use his scratching pad, or chase any other assortment of items he considers a toy.<br/><br/>What do they dislike?<br/> He seems very wary of other cats. He hasn't really seemed to take a shine to any of them, and he will give a little low growl if he gets close to them. They are kept separate because he is FIV+, so it may just be lack of familiarity posing the main hurdle. He also doesn't like to be held in certain ways. In general, slinging him under an arm is the only way he seems to tolerate well. Putting him to your chest with his paws on your shoulder like most pets do makes him uncomfortable. He doesn't bite or anything, but he definitely wants down and lets you know.<br/><br/>Do they like being held?<br/> You can reference the above section for that. Only really seems to like the one way. He's getting better, but it may be his size that affects what he's comfortable with. He's about 17 pounds.<br/><br/> Are they a snuggler?<br/> While he is definitely affectionate and will seek out someone for attention, he has only just begun to jump in a lap and snuggle. I believe he had a home at some point, so it may be that this is only because he was possibly discouraged from doing that previous to our taking him in. He does enjoy brushing against legs, rubbing the top of his head against you, and in general just being fawned over. While he isn't what I would call a snuggler, he is still super affectionate and does seem to seek out interaction with people.<br/><br/>Are they active or low energy?<br/> His preference seems to be staying pretty chill. He will chase after the occasional ball or toy, but mostly likes to just sort of roam the house and relax wherever he finds to his liking.<br/><br/>Do they like to play?<br/> He will play with toys, so long as it is one he has taken to. We get the tiny tennis balls for small dogs that squeak. They are felt-covered, so he can really hook a claw into them, which he seems to like. He will bat those around, he will go after string or shoelaces, he loves a good scratch pad, he enjoys those feather toys on a string you can dangle for him. He doesn't seem to want to engage in play for too long, but it is something he does.<br/><br/>Their favorite toy?<br/> A good scratch pad he will destroy in just a couple days. Shoelaces seem to be his favorite. <br/><br/>How are they with adult cats?<br/> He is FIV+, so he is limited in interacting with our other cats. He doesn't openly hiss or growl at them anymore, but did a little when we first started bringing him inside. They are separated by a tall gate, so he can still see them and such if he chooses to go back there. If someone had other FIV+ cats and didn't have to worry about it spreading, it's possible he might take to other cats. So far he's made it pretty clear he's leery of our others.<br/><br/>How are they with dogs?<br/> Since FIV can't be passed to dogs, he is allowed to interact with ours. She is about the same size as Perry. He was somewhat skittish and short with her at first and they had taken a few swipes at each other, but it seems that he has accepted her now. She can be a little jumpy when we first bring him inside, so it's understandable that he might be a little nervous around her. He seems to be tolerating her, to a point, but he has swatted at her pretty aggressively a few times in the last week or so. Maybe could learn to be ok with dogs, but he's not around ours more than a few hours a day.<br/><br/>How are they with children? <br/>He does not have experience with small children. We ask for a family with older teens or adults.<br/><br/>What kind of household do you feel Perry would prefer?<br/> Perry seems somewhat independent while still enjoying the company of people. Given he is FIV+ and has some possible personality traits, he would be fine as an only pet in the home. I think his ideal home would be with someone who just lets him be himself. He will definitely want some attention, but isn't overly demanding.
