Pepper's Story
Hi, my name is Pepper, and I'm a work in progress — and honestly, I think that's kind of beautiful.

I went to the humane society in May 2025, when I was about one to two years old, and I hit the ground running — literally. I was pregnant, and in June I had my babies and even stepped up as a surrogate mom to an orphaned kitten who needed me. I took that job very seriously. Motherhood? Nailed it.

The shelter, though? Not really my scene. It's a lot for a girl like me.

In December, I moved to a foster home, and things have been getting better ever since. I'm still figuring out this whole "trusting humans" thing, but I'm braver every single day. My foster mom is fascinating to me — I like to keep tabs on her, study her from a respectful distance, and make sure she's conducting herself properly. Am I ready to let her pet me? We're in negotiations. But I'm thinking about it.

The other cats here and I have reached a perfectly functional understanding. Do I breeze past them with perhaps a little more urgency than is strictly necessary? Yes. But when the cat TV comes on and everyone gathers around for some premium bird-and-squirrel content? I make my way right to the front row. Quality programming waits for no one.

I've also claimed an excellent perch in the cat tree in the sun room, which gets wonderful light, and I take my daily naps very seriously. I am, in many ways, thriving.

I'd do best in a calm, adult-only home — ideally as the only cat, where I can blossom at my own pace without the extra noise. I'm not a lap cat yet, but I'm curious, I'm brave, and I'm trying. For the right person — someone patient and gentle, who finds joy in earning a cat's trust — I might just be the most rewarding project you've ever taken on.

Some things are worth the wait. I really think I'm one of them.

If you are interested in meeting this cat, please fill out an application on our website!

https://www.therescuepack.org/cat-adoption-application

--
Our adoption fee includes spay/neuter and microchipping for all animals. Our adoption fee is $300 per cat.

All have had a vet exam, are up to date on vaccinations, have been given a dewormer and treated for fleas and ear mites if needed. All cats are tested for FeLV/FIV at six months of age.
