Pearl's Story
127 days & counting!

Pearl came to Calvert Animal Welfare League (CAWL) in early May 2025 with a built-in resting grumpy face (RGF). We worried that this shy, gray, approximate two-year-old might never come out of her quarantine kennel, but after a month’s time, she began quietly emerging from her safe spot to join the general population with zero fanfare or drama.

Her RGF betrays her purrfectly sweet nature and desire for pets and attention. The first time Pearl rubbed against our legs on her own, we knew this was a big, brave moment for our girl!

Why we love Pearl girl:
• She fits right in the “frat room” at CAWL, with four other male cats as her current roommates.
• As summer passed by, Pearl continued to unpack her purrsonality: friendly, quiet, interested in human interaction and play, and a little independent.
• Low maintenance/chill, gentle disposition, and still learning to trust people. Something about that face makes you want to earn her approval.
• Girl loves to eat! We are helping her with a diet, as she gained some happy weight since being rescued.

With time and proper acclimation, we believe Pearl will do well in a home with other cats (or also would do well as an only cat). She sometimes hissed initially during new encounters with other cats, but she quickly adapted as roommates have come and gone.

Pearl represents an excellent example of why we do what we do at CAWL: she was rescued from a shelter where she was kept in a crate with newspaper, from a region where she likely would have faced euthanasia. Now she lounges in the sunshine, enjoys a room to roam about, and (clearly) never goes hungry. This grateful girl doesn’t know what a forever home is yet, and we know that when her furever purrson finds her, it will blow Pearl’s mind. Is it you?
