Patches's Story

Patches is available for adoption! He is an adorable fluffy male tabby about 6 months old, born fall of 2025. Patches loves to play and cuddle and gets along well with other cats and kittens. However, he does have some special needs, please read his entire profile before letting those adorable eyes steal your heart!

Patches was found on the side of a highway outside of Benson in the winter, he was very cold, could barely open his eyes and covered in matted fur. He quickly received vet care, was given access to warmth and unlimited food and he cleaned up very well. He does have one ear tip that is permanently flopped over due to frostbite to add some character. He was then given his standard vaccines and neutered. After being neutered it was noticed that he was not using his litter box and a vet was consulted regarding urinary and digestion issues. He was given medication and supplements to address and a urinary tract infection and bacteria. Unfortunately, he still does have crystals in his urine which is a longer-term issue currently being dealt with. He is on a urinary diet, and we are hopeful that at some point that crystals would fully dissolve and he would be able to transition to a non-prescription diet. A potential adopter should be prepared to supply prescription Science Diet c/d food, both wet and dry for several months and possible longer. Additionally, this will need to be continued to managed with a vet and these visits and testing of urine samples will come with additional costs for any potential adopter. Patches has been using the litter box again however he does sometimes urinate on washable puppy pads in front of the litter box. This behavior may go away with the urinary crystals but is otherwise easy to manage and only adds a couple loads of laundry each week.

Patches will be adopted as an indoor only family pet. He has been neutered, tested negative for fe-leuk/FIV, been dewormed and is up to date on all his age-appropriate shots. To start the adoption process please call or text the Humane Society at (320) 808-3497. The adoption fee is $75 plus tax ($80.16), but if adopting 2 kittens the adoption fee is reduced to $50 per cat plus tax (total $106.88).
