This simply means he carries a virus that affects the immune system of cats. It is not contagious to humans, and in stable indoor environments, FIV+ cats can live long, happy, normal lives. The virus is primarily spread through deep bite wounds, not through casual contact like cuddling, grooming, or sharing space.
