Meet Oscar

Oscar was caught as part of a tnr effort. This boy has a cauliflower ear and the vet found that he had an abcess below one ear and severe ear infections. He has healed but it was determined that the cause of his infections was due to a food allergy. Currently we are feeding him dry and canned cat food that does not contain fish or chicken and he seems to be doing well on it.

Oscar is a quiet laid back cat. He does love his canned food and being petted especially around his head. Oscar does give love bites but he is very gentle when he does it. He is a big cat so he is a little intimidating at first but he has never tried to hurt me even when I had to clean and flush his ears and drain tube twice a day. I find him cuddling with his housemate (another male cat) frequently so he would probably enjoy having a feline sibling in his furever home.

When I go into his room, he will sit patiently by me until I make my lap available for him and then he immediately crawls in and lays down. I think his greatest wish at this point is to be adopted by someone who will let him become the lap cat he was always meant to be. A couple of the other cats will growl at him when he sits at his door but he just ignores them so he is a very even tempered cat.

Oscar is FIV+. Don't let his FIV status scare you! FIV is Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, which slowly weakens a cat's immune system over the years, making them more prone to infections. A cat who tests positive will have a powerful immune system for many years and with a lot of love, a well-balanced diet, good vet care at least once a year, and kept inside, they can live long, healthy lives! It can be passed on to other cats, but not to humans or canines, by blood contact due to deep bite wounds or cuts and can't be passed on through casual contact, mutual grooming, sneezing or sharing food bowls & litter boxes. Positive cats can live with other cats as long as they're not cats who'd try to fight them and would welcome the cat into their home.
