Oleg's Story

OLEG
First encounter: 1-8-2019 (born early 2016)
When we first met Oleg, his immediate future was clear: his mangled left rear leg, shattered after being struck hard by a truck, had to be amputated. Surgery was successful, and true to his resilient nature, he adjusted beautifully to life as a tripod.
He was adopted in March of 2019 and went on to spend nearly seven wonderful years with his devoted dad and his very best friend, former Crash Cat Gene. They were a bonded pair in every sense of the word.
When Gene passed away suddenly from acute illness, Oleg was left untethered — completely lost without his feline anchor. His grief showed itself through some manageable but persistent litterbox inconsistencies. His dad worked patiently with him, but when his own health took an unexpected turn, priorities had to shift. With great love and heartbreak, he made the decision to return Oleg to us so that he could continue receiving proper care.
Since his return, his manners have been impeccable. But truthfully? He is not happy here. Not with us — but with the situation. He misses his person. He misses his companion. Our bustling shelter environment is simply too much for his gentle, sensitive soul.
One positive note: we’ve been able to help him shed some unhealthy weight, though we are carefully managing that process with an appetite stimulant to ensure he doesn’t lose too much too quickly.
We are doing everything we can for him. But what he truly needs is peace.
Oleg would thrive in a quiet home — perhaps with a soft-spoken single person, a retired couple, or someone who simply enjoys a calm, homebody lifestyle. He needs a steady lap to hunker down on (gentle encouragement may be required), time to decompress, and the space to take a deep breath and adjust to this unexpected new chapter.
His heart is hurting. Ours is too.
He doesn’t understand the “why,” and it isn’t his fault. Nor is it his former owner’s. Sometimes life simply isn’t fair.
Because Oleg is a senior and a beloved Second-Time-Arounder, his adoption fee has been waived. We don’t want anything for him except happiness again.
________________________________________
“Given stability and patience, we believe his light will shine just as brightly again.”
